About the role

The role of the First Nations Advanced Health Worker – Child & Family Health is to deliver high level cultural advice and professional and culturally specific support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children accessing the child & family health and development services, including their family, carers, and social/cultural support networks.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • High level interpersonal, communication, consultation and negotiation skills and ability to develop effective partnerships within the Health Service and external stakeholders.
  • Cultural lived experience and understanding of the cultural factors and histories that affect the health and wellbeing of First Nations people today.
  • The ability to provide effective cultural support to First Nations children & families accessing community child & family health and child development services.
  • Ability to support multidisciplinary teams to improve their understanding of the Social, Emotional and Well-Being needs of First Nations children and families.
  • The appropriate clinical skills for the delivery of evidence-based health assessments, health promotion, education and illness prevention activities and primary health care services to First Nations children and their families.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act of 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
