The Research Allied Health Professional will be responsible for developing and implementing research projects within the Queensland Cerebral Palsy and Rehabilitation Research Centre (QCPRRC).
The position operates with a high level of independence in developing, planning and implementing research methodologies for targeted research programs including recruiting patients to participate in research studies. In order to address the research requirements of each study, a high level of clinical knowledge and skills, regarding the complex nature of cerebral palsy in general, and the allied health management of children with brain injury or cerebral palsy in particular, will be required.
About the Role
- Utilise high level paediatric allied health professional skills to develop, plan, implement and report research methodologies within a targeted research program/or targeted research programs (see attachment) of the Queensland Cerebral Palsy and Rehabilitation Research Centre (QCPRRC).
- Apply high level problem solving and critical thinking skills to support independent clinical reasoning and professional judgement in choosing and administering appropriate assessments, maintaining and reporting databases and interpreting assessment findings, requiring infrequent need for direct clinical practice supervision.
- Provide evidence-based and family-centred paediatric assessment and practice within a multidisciplinary team, to children with brain injury or cerebral palsy and their families participating in the study, and complete reports to feedback outcomes to families and their designated clinicians.
- Provide education and consultation to health professionals and others working with children with brain injury or cerebral palsy in order to coordinate and implement recruitment of children to the study and to advocate for referral for appropriate services for these children according to best practice guidelines.
- Provide high level clinical advice and education to a range of health professionals, both internal and external to Children's Health Queensland, regarding the outcomes of assessment, the intervention programs and the possible implications of this for services to children in the research project.
- Apply a high standard of record keeping, communication and consultative skills to work effectively with children, parents/carers, multi-disciplinary team members, other health professionals and agencies in order to meet research goals, within ethical standards.
- Monitor and report on research outcomes, including close liaison with research counterparts in collaborative investigations within and outside of Queensland
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan, implement and evaluate research activities outside of the present research project, but within the broader context of the Research Centre.
- Provide timely reports and summary data to chief investigators and service managers.
