The Education Directorate has a long-term opportunity to fill the position of Executive Branch Manager, Early Childhood Education commencing 21 October 2025.

The Executive Branch Manager, Early Childhood Education works to the Executive Group Manager, System Policy and Reform as a member of the Directorate's corporate executive team.

The Executive Branch Manager provides advice to Director-General, Deputy Director-General, other members of the organisation's executive team and the Minister and Cabinet.

Early Childhood Education is responsible for managing the delivery of Set up for Success: An Early Childhood Strategy for the ACT and for supporting early childhood education policy work nationally which include the Preschool Reform Agreement and the Preschool Outcomes Measure. Early Childhood Policy is also responsible for delivering the ACT Government's commitment to free Three-year-old preschool, the Three-year-old initiative and delivers support to preschools and ECECs with preschool pathways provider support, preschool practice coaches and early childhood community coordinator support.

The role will require engagement with internal stakeholders (including Principals and other members of school leadership teams, executive colleagues, the ACT Principals' Association and Directorate staff) and external stakeholders (including the early childhood education and care sector) and communication with state and federal education policy experts, and members of the broader community.

Position Overview:

  • Manages the effective and efficient delivery of Directorate assets, resources and people, to assist the achievement of Government objectives, policies and priorities;
  • Provides leadership to ensure the continuous improvement of education outcomes in the ACT; and
  • Actively participates in the management of the Directorate as a member of the Corporate Executive Team.

The key deliverables are:

  • Policy development and program management for delivery of key government priorities, particularly relating to the Set up for Success Strategy and the Preschool Reform Agreement.
  • National and local representation and leadership on early childhood education reforms and priorities.

Remuneration: The position attracts a remuneration package ranging from $271,248 - $280,847depending on current superannuation arrangements of the successful applicant. This includes a cash component of $239,954.

Contract:The successful applicant will be engaged under a performance-based long-term contract for a period of up to five years. Prospective applicants should be aware that long-term engagements are tabled in the ACT

Legislative Assembly.
