About the role

This role serves as a key external representative of the business, responsible for managing incoming quotation requests, preparing and submitting quotations, and overseeing the execution of awarded projects. Working collaboratively with the leadership team, the position plays a critical role in ensuring the production schedule is optimised with profitable work, delivered to a high standard of quality and within agreed timeframes.

  • Client Engagement & Sales Development: Proactively build industry relationships and drive sales through calls, emails, research, and occasional off-site customer visits.
  • Customer Service: Respond promptly and professionally to customer enquiries via phone and email, ensuring clear communication and support.
  • Technical Analysis: Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation to accurately define job scope and requirements.
  • Quotation & Estimation: Prepare detailed job estimates and quotations, ensuring alignment with customer expectations and project feasibility.
  • Vendor Management: Source and evaluate bids for materials and services, select suitable vendors, and maintain strong supplier relationships to secure optimal pricing and terms.
  • Order & Procurement Processing: Enter confirmed orders into the job database, raise purchase orders, and manage procurement of required materials.
  • Production Coordination: Plan and monitor production activities, allocate workforce resources, and support workshop management to meet delivery timelines.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee job quality control processes including inspection and test plans (ITPs), test certificates, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and manufacturing data reports (MDRs).
  • Engineering Support: Produce and review technical drawings, validate customer requirements against engineering best practices, and recommend improvements.
  • Project & Budget Oversight: Track job progress, manage budgets and costing, support invoicing, and identify opportunities for operational and service enhancements.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in mechanical engineering materials, fabrication and machining processes, and the operation of relevant tooling and machinery used in the production of precision components.
  • Digital Competency: Strong capability in using office productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and engineering design tools such as CAD/CAM.
  • Workflow Management: Proven ability to coordinate end-to-end job workflows-from material procurement through to production and delivery-while maintaining clear communication between customers and internal teams.
  • Problem-Solving: Advanced problem-solving skills in both engineering design and manufacturing contexts, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with a customer-focused mindset and the interpersonal skills necessary to build strong working relationships across all levels.
