As the Engineering Lead, you will lead the delivery of engineering for complex projects across all phases from pursuit to delivery. Delivering projects led by contractors (i.e. design-build, EPC, etc.), your focus will be to ensure design services are delivered addressing all contract requirements, project technical, systems & civil interfaces and other stakeholder (operator, maintainer, third-party) interfaces, in order to meet the objectives of the project owner's requirements and the specific contractor client. This role involves direct management of internal engineering disciplines, and coordination with our integration team (systems engineering and assurance), contractor clients, subcontractors, and client-side stakeholders to profitably deliver the project-required design. Management of timely stakeholders, constructability, and procurement input is an essential component of the Engineering Lead's responsibilities.
You will be accountable for:
Design Project Management
- Establish clear design scope, cost and schedule baselines during project pursuits and delivery including design packaging and subcontracting strategy.
- Ensure that scope of all designs are delivered according to agreed baseline cost and schedule, identifying any deviations for resolution.
- Manage changes in accordance with project and Hatch's corporate requirements.
- Manage design project cost and schedule performance for internal and subcontract design teams.
- Manage all design subcontracts including independent checking/peer review.
Design Management
- Define all necessary design inputs and ensure appropriate input milestones are communicated to all project stakeholders through the project schedule. Communicate input needs in advance of deadline and document all missing inputs at each project gate for appropriate commercial action.
- As part of defining all required design inputs, identifying all site due diligence and investigation activities and existing condition modelling requirements.
- With the Information Management team, establish and implement a clear digital engineering strategy.
- Ensure a clear requirements baseline is established at each project gate before progressing further design activities.
- Ensure the required maturity of all design deliverables are agreed to and documented with the client in advance of all submissions.
- Identify all design assumptions, deviations and non-compliances and ensure they are recorded, communicated, and resolved in accordance with the contract.
- Lead design team to deliver design in accordance with defined project technical and interface requirements. Identify design and interface issues for timely resolution.
- Manage constructability and procurement input with the contractor.
Technical Services Management
- Manage all technical site support services.
- Manage execution of all site investigations and material testing (concrete, geotechnical, water, etc.)
- Coordinate show drawing compilation and review for general conformance by the design team as required.
- Management of temporary works design (and any subconsultants) to support construction (i.e., formwork, cranes, site offices, fences, scaffolding). Coordinate interface between constructability and temporary design.
- During execution, coordinate design activities with construction, procurement, and suppliers through management of appropriate Request for Information and Nonconformance processes.
- Engineer of Record management of consultants and Design/Build Suppliers
What you bring:
- Minimum 15 years of experience working with Contractors and Engineering teams in the infrastructure, energy or mining/metals sectors.
- Executed, from start to finish, a minimum of 2 projects within these sectors in the last 10 years
- Minimum bachelor's degree in civil, electrical/mechanical, rail systems, or related engineering discipline.
- Strong knowledge of systems engineering & assurance as well as interface and integration management.
- Proficiency in tools like DOORS, MS Project, Primavera, and BIM/3D coordination platforms is highly desirable.

- Demonstrated appreciation for managing detailed engineering work in design-construction (D&C) and related contract types for Contractors.
- Demonstrated appreciation for contractor's processes and issues that contractor's face with design firms.
- Strong management of design delivery including contract, change and technical management.
- Strong cross-functional coordination and leadership abilities.
- Technical report writing, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Practical approach to construction delivery and system handover.
- Proactive risk and stakeholder management.
