Baird Bay South Australia Baird Bay Experience Full time $40,000 - $60,000 per year
Guide / Coxswain – Baird Bay Experience

Location: Baird Bay, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia

Engagement: Seasonal Fixed Term

Are you passionate about life on the water, wildlife encounters, and delivering unforgettable guest experiences? Baird Bay Experience is seeking a friendly, confident Guide/Coxswain to help bring our renowned marine wildlife adventures to life — swimming alongside wild sea lions and dolphins in one of Australia's most pristine coastal environments.

About the Role

You'll alternate between skippering and hosting guided boat tours and support guests in the water during seasonal wildlife encounters. In addition, you'll contribute to smooth lodge operations — from hospitality to housekeeping — ensuring our guests feel at home before, during, and after their time on the ocean. This is an exciting opportunity to expand your skills and gain valuable experience across a range of marine tourism activities.

This role is hands-on, guest-focused, and perfect for someone who thrives in the outdoors and enjoys working as part of a close-knit team.

Multiple, seasonal fixed-term contracts available (01 SEP - 30 APR) each year.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Skipper with vessel preparation, safety checks, and pack-down

• Conduct and support pre-departure safety briefings

• Guide guests during swimming encounters — offering assistance and encouragement

• Provide interpretive information about wildlife, nature, and coastal heritage

• Maintain boat presentation to the highest standard

• Assist with hospitality, beverage service, and POS when required

• Support general lodge operations including cleaning and maintenance

• Always uphold safety protocols to protect guests, wildlife, and crew

What You'll Bring

• Guest-facing experience — ideally in tourism, hospitality, or marine adventures

• Confident swimming abilities and love for the ocean environment

• Friendly, outgoing approach to guest service

• Strong teamwork, communication, and initiative

• Passion for nature, wildlife, and coastal conservation

• Comfortable working and living remotely on a rotating roster

Qualifications

Essential on commencement or willingness to obtain:

• Coxswain Grade 1 (NC)

• Shipboard Safety Skill Set

• Marine Radio Operator's Licence

• RSA — Responsible Service of Alcohol

• Remote First Aid & Oxygen Therapy

• Current Driver's Licence (LR preferred)

• SA Passenger Vehicle Driver Accreditation

• Background in tourism or marine biology desirable

Why You'll Love This Role

• Work daily with wild dolphins and sea lions in their natural habitat

• Be part of a supportive and passionate small team

• Gain experience across marine operations, guiding, and guest hosting

• Live in a ruggedly beautiful location where every day feels like an adventure

• Competitive wage package with accommodation included

• Training and certification support available for the right person
