Graduate Social Worker – Family Report Drafting Pathway
4 days ago
About Us
At The Groundworks Lab, we specialise in supporting families, children, and individuals navigating life's challenges, particularly those arising from family separation and transitions. Guided by principles of child-centred practice, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based assessment, we are committed to providing families with a safe and supportive pathway forward.
We are building a structured graduate pathway for Social Workers who wish to progress from drafting family reports to becoming fully-fledged Family Report Writers. This is an exceptional opportunity for graduates to develop specialised expertise in family law, therapeutic assessment, and professional report writing while contributing to meaningful outcomes for children and families.
About the Role
This role is ideal for a graduate Social Worker with:
- A Masters of Social Work, or
- A Bachelor of Social Work with relevant work experience.
We are seeking candidates with:
- Strong writing and analytical skills.
- Experience reviewing, summarising, or disseminating complex information (e.g., subpoenas, court documents, case notes).
- Interest in building expertise in family law and report writing.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the production of Family Reports through drafting and summarising information.
- Reviewing collateral material, subpoenas, and other documentation to assist assessments.
- Observing and assisting in interviews and assessments under supervision.
- Developing skills in therapeutic interventions, child development assessment, and family dynamics.
- Participating in structured supervision and training to progress toward independent report writing.
Why Join Us?
Structured graduate pathway with clear progression to Family Report Writer.
Comprehensive onboarding and weekly supervision throughout the first 3 months
Opportunities for professional development in family law, trauma-informed practice, and child-centred assessment.
Supportive, collaborative team that values mental wellbeing and work-life balance.
Flexibility in how you structure your work — manage your own schedule and approach as long as deadlines are met.
Hybrid work arrangements, with opportunities to work from home.
Exposure to diverse family law cases and meaningful, child-focused outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work (Masters preferred, Bachelor acceptable with relevant work experience).
- Strong written communication and information analysis skills.
Desirable:
- Some experience in working with children, family law, child protection, family assessments, or related settings.
- Experience or demonstrated capacity in reviewing and synthesising complex documents.
- Knowledge of Australian family law and the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth)
Application & Assessment Process
Shortlisted applicants may be invited to participate in:
- An Interview – exploring their understanding of child development, trauma-informed practice, and their approach to professional writing and reflective learning.
- A Written Assessment Task – candidates may be provided with a brief case summary and asked to identify key issues, themes, and potential areas of focus, followed by a short writing sample.
This process is designed to assess both critical thinking and professional writing capability, as these are foundational skills for success in family report work.
