The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is seeking an experienced Assistant Director to join our Information Release and Privacy team. This is a unique opportunity to shape and deliver impactful privacy strategies that support the strategic direction and mitigate risks within the Agency.
The Information Release and Privacy (IRP) team sits within the Information Release, Privacy and Legal Operations (IRPLO) Branch. The Information Release and Privacy team directly supports the NDIA to adhere to the Privacy Act and uphold the principles set out in the NDIA Privacy Policy, including remediation activities when privacy breaches occur. The team also facilitates the disclosure of personal information when the Agency is required to by law or when it is in the public interest to do so.
Where you can add valueAs the EL1 Assistant Director, Information Release and Privacy you will lead the team managing high volume requests for information from a range of stakeholders.
Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
- Leading a team who are assisting and making Information Release decisions on complex matters in accordance with the NDIS Act.
- Coordinating the provision of support and advice to Agency staff regarding the resolution of privacy incidents.
- Developing reports and providing analysis to assist agency decision makers.
- Leading the development of systems, processes and practical tools including delivering training to support information handling and Privacy awareness.
- Managing the priorities of clients and available resources to deliver results on time.
- Managing reported privacy incidents (including Notifiable Data Breaches).
- Coordinating the privacy function on data breaches that engage the NDIA Data Breach Response Plan.
Knowledge required includes:
- In-depth knowledge of the structure, mission, and objectives of the NDIA and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
- Extensive and detailed knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and policy frameworks that govern the NDIA and NDIS operations.
- Thorough understanding of risk management principles and practices to assist in maintaining and overseeing risk management programs.
- Proficient knowledge of project management methodologies to support the preparation and coordination of complex reports and documents related to committees and projects.
- Advanced awareness of communication protocols and etiquette for interacting with senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of confidentiality and privacy principles to handle highly sensitive information with discretion.

While this role is ideally performed from Canberra ACT, Geelong VIC, and Parramatta NSW, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
