About the Practice:
We're a technically focused building services consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality fire protection and fire engineering solutions across commercial, residential, industrial, healthcare, institutional, and mixed-use projects.
Our team is built around experienced engineers who value rigour, technical accuracy, and sound engineering judgement. We work collaboratively across disciplines, applying engineering principles to design and implement fire protection systems that are practical, efficient, and compliant with both performance-based and prescriptive requirements under the BCA and relevant Australian Standards.
This is a practice where engineers are trusted to lead their work, mentor the next generation, and continually improve technical standards.
The Opportunity:
We're looking for a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to take ownership of project delivery from concept through to commissioning. This position will suit someone who enjoys detailed system design, coordination, and technical problem-solving – someone who takes pride in developing efficient, compliant, and well-documented solutions.
You'll be joining a mature, capable team that values precision and accountability. The work is varied and challenging, spanning multi-storey residential and commercial developments, industrial facilities, and public sector infrastructure.
Core Responsibilities:
- Undertake the design and documentation of fire protection systems, including sprinkler, hydrant, hose-reel, suppression and detection systems, and associated hydraulic infrastructure.
- Apply engineering analysis and hydraulic calculations to develop robust, compliant designs.
- Prepare and review fire system design reports, technical specifications, and drawings.
- Coordinate fire protection systems with architectural, structural, and building services disciplines.
- Lead technical discussions with clients, builders, and approval authorities.
- Prepare and review Fire Engineering Briefs and Fire Safety Strategies in collaboration with Fire Safety Engineers.
- Conduct system performance reviews, technical audits, and peer reviews as required.
- Mentor junior engineers and drafters, providing design guidance and quality assurance.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Fire Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 5+ years' experience in fire protection system design within a consulting or contracting environment.
- Sound technical knowledge of the BCA/NCC, relevant Australian Standards (AS 2118, AS 2419, AS 1670, AS 1851) and performance-based design methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience delivering compliant fire protection designs across diverse project types and scales.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit, and hydraulic calculation software (e.g., Hyena or equivalent).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining design quality and meeting deadlines.
- CPEng, NER or equivalent registration (or working toward) is desirable.
What's on Offer:
- $120,000 – $150,000 + Super, commensurate with experience and project scale exposure.
- Tools of trade, technical software, and relevant equipment provided.
- Opportunity to lead technically challenging projects with real engineering complexity.
- Structured professional development and support toward registration or further study.
- Collaborative working environment that values engineering integrity over bureaucracy.
- Flexible work arrangements to balance site, client, and office responsibilities.
