Scholarship at Newington College

The Secondary Teacher Education Scholarship provided by Newington College offers a unique opportunity to work closely within a school. The scholarship is valued at $12,000 for one year only and will be awarded to a student with a strong academic record who will contribute to the curricular and co-curricular life of Newington College throughout the academic year.

During the scholarship, the recipient will have the opportunity to be fully involved in the life of the College, including:

• being embedded in an academic department and mentored by experienced teachers
• participating in wellbeing and pastoral programs
• involvement in the co-curricular life of the school
• access to the professional learning and other resources provided by the College.

Recipients will spend time at the College, split between an academic role within their specialist academic area and involvement in a co-curricular activity. It will equate to around 10 hours per week which can be flexibly negotiated around university commitments. The recipient will be expected to complete their internship or major professional experience placement at the College.

Selection will be by consideration of a written application and a subsequent interview for shortlisted candidates. Continuation of the scholarship is dependent on maintaining a high academic standard and the recipient must achieve satisfactory progress in practical experience and professional studies throughout their final year.

To be eligible for this scholarship you will need to be undertaking your final year of initial teacher education in 2026 in a course which qualifies you to teach in a subject area that is part of the College's curriculum.
