Who We Are & Why We're Different

Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is a community-led Aboriginal health service delivering integrated primary healthcare, allied health, and wellbeing programs across more than 160,000 km² of remote NT — stretching from the Victoria River country along the WA border to the tip of the Tanami desert.

Our work is grounded in cultural security, guided by community control, and driven by long-term impact. From maternal health to disability support, we build trusted relationships that lead to real outcomes for our mob in the bush.

As an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation, we value inclusion, local leadership, and purpose-driven people. We're not your typical workplace — and we're proud of that.

Lead a Program with Purpose

KWHB is hiring a full-time Cancer Support Coordinator based in Katherine, NT.

This new role will lead the design and delivery of a cancer care program focused on education, screening, and culturally safe client support across the NT's Big Rivers region.

You'll coordinate clinical and health promotion staff, strengthen stakeholder partnerships, and improve access to screening and care pathways from the bush to the hospital.

More specifically, you'll:

  • Deliver region-wide cancer initiatives and screening strategies
  • Lead a team including a Cancer Care Nurse and promotion staff
  • Partner with Cancer Council NT, NT Health, and BreastScreen
  • Integrate care into KWHB clinics and support local referrals
  • Co-design culturally appropriate resources and engagement events
  • Report outcomes, drive CQI, and deliver training

How We'll Set You Up for Success

This role is all about relationships — so your onboarding starts with connection, not KPIs.

In your first few weeks, you'll:

  • Join a supported orientation journey to learn how we work together
  • Head out bush with health teams to meet Elders and communities
  • Meet key partners across hospitals and health networks
  • Explore systems and map out where you can lead

Over your first three months, it's about building trust, listening deeply, and helping shape the direction of the new program. You'll have full support from your manager and senior leaders — giving you space, context, and confidence to succeed.

Join a Team That Cares

You'll work alongside a tight-knit Health Programs team that's smart, social, independent, and kind. They share weekly learnings, back each other during busy periods, and thrive on purpose-driven work that really matters.

Your manager brings warmth, trust, and clear expectations — creating an environment where your strengths are backed and your input valued. The team culture is down-to-earth, inclusive, and respectful of each person's space and voice.

If you love collaboration, value autonomy, and enjoy the balance of deep thinking and human connection — you'll fit right in.

What You'll Need

  • AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse or Aboriginal Health Practitioner
  • Experience in First Nations or remote health contexts
  • At least 3 years' experience in program coordination or clinical leadership
  • Strong understanding of cancer care or health promotion
  • Confidence engaging across communities, clinics, and hospitals
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills

Bonus points for:

  • Knowledge of national screening programs and referral systems
  • Background in stakeholder training, CQI, or Communicare

You're a relationship builder — thoughtful, organised, and ready to lead with empathy. You adapt your communication to your audience, advocate for people navigating tough journeys, and stay grounded in complexity.

This is your chance to build something new with people who care — and make a real difference from the start.

What You'll Get

  • Relocation support
  • 6 weeks' accommodation on arrival
  • Paid travel allowance for remote trips
  • 12% super + salary packaging
  • Ongoing cultural learning and mentoring
  • Genuine pathways into leadership
  • A community of driven, kind, and capable teammates

If you're ready to grow something meaningful and bring quality care closer to community, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply now and help shape the future of cancer care in the NT.
