Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Property Placements Full time $120,000 - $250,000 per year

(GMO) General Manager – Operations

Full-Time / Executive Leadership Position / National remit / Melbourne-based

Our valued client is a high-growth, privately owned, dynamic Construction Services business, partnering with Government Entities, Tier 1 National Construction companies, and ASX-listed diversified property and development groups.

As part of their continued expansion, they are creating a GM Operations role to elevate operational management into executive leadership — ensuring the business has the operational capability, governance, and scalable systems to deliver consistent, profitable growth.

This is a forward-facing leadership position — not a traditional operations role. The GM Operations will work closely with the Managing Director and Executive Team to align service delivery nationally, embed scalable systems, and strengthen compliance frameworks, while acting as a trusted advisor and senior representative with major clients, contractors, and government stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Workforce Management

  • Provide executive leadership across large-scale workforce operations spanning Traffic Management and People Operations

  • Establish national standards, workforce utilisation models, and performance measures to drive efficiency and scalability

  • Ensure services are delivered safely, in compliance, and aligned with client expectations

Commercial & Financial Discipline

  • Drive disciplined P&L performance across all service lines

  • Oversee contract execution, pricing strategies, and bid inputs

  • Partner with Finance to track and optimise operational metrics for sustainable profitability

People & Organisational Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop frontline managers and operational leaders

  • Build succession depth and elevate leadership capacity across the organisation

  • Embed a high-performance culture based on accountability, safety, and continuous improvement

Systems, Processes & Compliance

  • Implement scalable, digitised systems for consistent service delivery

  • Strengthen WHS, IR, and licensing frameworks to reduce risk and ensure compliance

  • Embed structured reporting and mobilisation models to drive efficiency and growth

Strategic Growth & Client Engagemen
t

  • Translate strategic objectives into executable operational delivery

  • Leverage industry relationships and national networks to support growth

  • Represent the business at executive level with Tier 1 contractors, government authorities, and key clients

Candidate Profile

We are seeking an accomplished operations leader with demonstrated experience at the senior/executive level (GM, COO, or equivalent). The ideal candidate will bring proven capability in leading large and distributed workforces, deep commercial acumen, and a track record of lifting organisational capability through better systems, processes, and people development.

This role requires an authentic, approachable, and strategic leader who balances hands-on operational control with executive-level value creation. Candidates must be highly self-motivated, capable of working autonomously, and able to deliver outcomes in fast-paced, complex environments.

Experience within Construction Services or related sectors is essential.

  • Senior operational leadership experience (GM, COO, or equivalent)

  • Demonstrated workforce leadership across diverse, national operations

  • Strong commercial and P&L management experience

  • Proven ability to implement scalable systems and compliance frameworks

  • Well-established networks within construction or infrastructure sectors

The Opportunity

This is an outstanding opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the operational platform of a fast-growing, industry-respected organisation. The successful candidate will operate at the executive level, partner with Tier 1 and ASX-listed clients, and have the mandate to design and lead a truly national operations function that underpins long-term, sustainable growth.

Appointment Timelines

This is a rare opportunity for an accomplished operational leader to step into a newly created executive role within a dynamic and growing organisation. A full candidate briefing pack is available upon request, and the closing date for this appointment is
Friday,12th September 2025
