About the role

Previous experience as a media advisor and/or journalist with digital/social media skills will be favourably considered.

To be considered for the role, you will have:

1.   Experience in leading, developing and implementing high level strategic advice on complex communications, including media and political issues.

2.   High level of interpersonal and stakeholder management skills conducive to maintaining open and effective relationships with a range of clients, including senior executives, managers, Ministers, consultants, and the media.

3.   High level of verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate key messages to a diverse range of stakeholders.

4.   Practical knowledge and experience of communication and marketing tools and processes, including the use of a diverse range of media in regional community consultation and communication strategies.

5.   Proven ability to operate astutely in a politically sensitive environment where the ability to apply strategic and lateral thinking in the resolution of issues is essential, together with a high level of integrity, discretion and confidentiality.

6.   An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

Key Responsibilities

1.   Provide proactive and reactive media support in collaboration with the central media team.

2.   Provide high level strategic media management, public relations and crisis communication leadership and advice and support to the Minister's office.

3.   Provide high level journalistic, editing and copy writing expertise and manage the writing responsibilities of the Office.

4.   Support the coordination and monitoring of whole of government media management and crisis communications policies and procedures.

5.   Prepare media releases, statements, speeches, correspondence and reports as required.

6.   Help shape and evolve key messages for the Minister's various portfolio responsibilities and ensure they are reflected across external communication channels, including as speeches, media releases and social media posts.
