About the School

Spinifex State College is the largest secondary school in North West Queensland, providing high-quality education to students from Mount Isa and surrounding communities. Our vision is to develop clever, skilled and creative graduates through a wide range of learning opportunities that support the diverse needs of our students. We focus on personalised learning, with strong partnerships between staff, students, parents and the community. Clear expectations around safety, respect and responsibility guide our school culture. With support from industry and education partners like Glencore and TAFE, we offer real-world learning experiences that help every student reach their potential.

About the Role

As the Youth Support Coordinator, you will provide individual and, where appropriate, group support to help at-risk students engage with education and training. You will refer students to relevant agencies and support services to assist in addressing barriers to their participation. The role involves case management and close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. The Youth Support Coordinator reports to the Principal or their nominated delegate for day-to-day matters and to the Regional Youth Support Coordinator for professional supervision and guidance.

Your Responsibilities

As the Youth Support Coordinator, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify barriers to young people achieving outcomes and referral to appropriate support services.
  • Maintain records of student contact on a daily basis.
  • Support students to achieve satisfactory learning outcomes.
  • Develop and monitor post program support as required to meet program performance criteria.
  • Develop and foster relationships between the school and families of students to assist at risk students to remain engaged with education or training.
  • Conduct home visits with students and their families, as appropriate, to advise and provide strategies for a more positive educational experience.

Inclusion and Diversity

We all have a role in making our workplace one that embraces and values diverse backgrounds, perspectives and life experiences, creating a workplace where we all belong.

Reasonable adjustments may be discussed with your manager, approved and documented to support and promote human rights and diversity across the workforce.

Please refer to the attached role description for the full list of responsibilities and mandatory requirements for this position.

Interested? To Apply

  • Attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should be familiar with your relevant work history).
  • Attach a written statement (2-page maximum) in response to the attached role description.

We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.

Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.

Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.
