About the role

Mater Refugee and Multicultural Health Service is seeking a Clinical Nurse (CN) to join the Multicultural Health Coordination team working part time 0.5FTE on a permanent contract.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing team that includes specialist multicultural health nurses, social worker and administration staff who are passionate about health access and equity for people of refugee and multicultural backgrounds.

Mater Multicultural Health Coordination Nurses provide nursing care, culturally responsive health education, community-based care coordination, and health advocacy to individuals from multicultural backgrounds in a variety of settings, including General Practices across Brisbane, Logan and Ipswich, the Mater Refugee Complex Care Clinic, community settings and home environments.

The hours of work are between Monday – Friday from 08:30 – 17:00. We require applicants to be available for minimum 0.5FTE (5 days per fortnight) and able to work in Brisbane, Logan and Ipswich.

We are seeking creative thinkers and problem-solvers with a high level of clinical skills, IT skills and communication skills. We are particularly seeking nurses with skills and experience in community child and adolescent health.

Salary range: $ $58.30 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits 

What you'll be doing

Whilst displaying the highest level of clinical standards for the service you will be responsible for:

  • Delivering safe, person-centred care addressing physical, psychological, social, and cultural needs, guided by quality and safety frameworks.
  • Applying advanced clinical expertise to assess, plan, and coordinate care using evidence-based, holistic approaches grounded in social determinants of health.
  • Providing culturally responsive health education, health promotion, and advocacy to overcome systemic barriers and ensure informed consent.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and delegating tasks in line with NMBA standards.
  • Supporting quality improvement, audits, research, and risk management initiatives.
  • Maintaining professional competence, promoting a learning culture, and ensuring compliance with policies, infection control and documentation standards, and confidentiality. 

About you

To be successful in this position, you will have:

  • Current AHPRA nursing registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions).
  • Class C driving licence.
  • Minimum 3 years' clinical experience in at least one of the following specialist nursing fields: refugee health/ primary care/ rehabilitation/ disability/ paediatrics/ chronic disease/ mental health.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and health equity and access issues for disadvantaged populations, with demonstrated experience in supporting clients to navigate these.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills including experience of working with peoples from diverse cultural backgrounds; engaging interpreters in a clinical setting, and the ability to liaise with a variety of different stakeholders both internally and externally at various levels.
  • A strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to role model and promote the Mater values.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate both in a team environment and autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning and strong advocacy, listening, negotiation and decision-making skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and advanced level skills in coordination, time management, digital literacy, problem-solving and ability to escalate matters appropriately.
  • Commitment to ensuring the level of service is always delivered to patients. 

Desirable:

  • Experience in paediatric nursing
