About the Role

The Deputy Project Manager is responsible for supporting the Project or Program Manager in the successful delivery of assigned programs and projects. This includes ensuring activities are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

This opportunity is ideal for a
systems engineer seeking to transition into project management
. No formal project management experience is required, but candidates should demonstrate exposure to technical projects and a strong interest in developing project leadership skills.

Objectives of the Role

  • Deliver projects in line with schedule and defined budgets, including achievement of key milestones
  • Ensure delivery of all agreed project outcomes
  • Contribute to expanding project scope through effective contract variations

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager in planning, execution, and closure of project activities
  • Ensure the project has adequate resources to meet objectives
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks, while capturing opportunities
  • Monitor and report project performance through performance measurement plans
  • Develop and execute stakeholder engagement strategies
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Contribute to achieving financial objectives including cash flow and profit margins
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and project management skills to team members

  • Experience supporting or leading teams of 15 or more
  • Understanding of project organisation and planning
  • Knowledge of project monitoring and control processes
  • Risk management and issue resolution capability
  • Understanding of contract and subcontractor management
  • Financial and performance reporting awareness
  • Basic knowledge of configuration and change management practices
  • Proficiency in MS Project or similar project planning tools

Specific Knowledge / Courses (desirable)

  • Customer expectation management
  • Negotiation and influencing skills
  • Earned Value Management training
  • Advanced MS Project skills

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor of Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Recognition or training as a Project Management Practitioner (desirable)
