
Compliance Specialist

The IT Security Compliance Specialist keeps our IT systems safe and compliant for a school photography business that provides data to schools. You'll focus on technology used in school settings, gathering security requirements, building and updating compliance registers, checking for risks, and fixing issues to protect student data and ensure online safety. You'll work with teams to align our systems with laws and the Safer Technologies 4 Schools (ST4S) framework, supporting a culture of compliance to keep data secure in school-related environments.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Compliance Register Management:
Build and update compliance registers to track laws, standards (like, PCI DSS, ISO27001, ST4S), controls, findings, and actions.

Security Requirements Gathering:
Work with teams to identify and document security needs for our photography and IT systems, driving the security program and supporting key transformational projects with security requirements.
·
Regulatory and Standards Compliance:
Check that our systems meet laws and ST4S guidelines for digital tools used in schools.
·
Audits and Risk Assessments:
Run regular audits and risk checks on IT systems handling school and student data, finding and fixing security gaps.
·
Policy Development and Implementation:
Create and update security policies and procedures to match laws and ST4S standards for cybersecurity and privacy.
·
Cross-Functional Coordination:
Team up with IT, legal, and other groups to handle compliance tasks, support audits, and ST4S reviews.
·
Reporting and Communication:
Prepare clear reports on compliance, audits, risks, incidents, and ST4S results for managers and teams.
·
Training and Awareness:
Train staff on compliance, security practices, and ST4S guidelines to boost awareness for protecting student data.
·
Incident Response:
Investigate security incidents, document findings, and apply fixes that align with appropriate regulation and compliance requirements.
·
Vendor and System Monitoring:
Regularly check security systems and vendors to maintain compliance and reduce risks.
·
Regulatory Updates:
Stay updated on changes to laws and ST4S guidelines (like the AI module for school tech) and adjust processes as needed.
·
Disaster Recovery and Continuity Planning:
Help create disaster recovery and incident response plans, for photography and IT systems.
Other Duties:
Support the company's changing IT and compliance needs as required.
