About NEXT STEPS Program
The Next Steps program supports young people aged 16–21 as they transition from care to independent living. Many of these young people have experienced significant challenges, including trauma and disrupted connections, and are now preparing for one of the biggest changes in their lives.
Next Steps provides practical and therapeutic support as they transition to independent living.
As a Therapeutic Youth Worker, you will:
- Build trusted relationships to help young people heal, grow and thrive.
- Provide casework, case management and life skills support.
- Work alongside families, community services and cultural networks to strengthen supports.
- Advocate for young people and ensure their voices are heard.
- Use trauma-informed practice to support resilience, confidence and wellbeing.
What You'll Bring:
- Certificate IV in Community Services (minimum).
- Experience supporting young people with complex needs.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice.
Experience in case management and record-keeping.
- A current DHS WWCC Check and Driver's Licence.
It's a bonus if you have:
- Progress toward or completion of a Social Work (or related) degree.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
- Knowledge of the care system and housing/tenancy supports.
Special Conditions
- You are required to take part in an on-call roster.
- Some work may need to be done outside of regular business hours.
- Use of your own vehicle (Grey Fleet) or a Centacare fleet vehicle.
