About The Role
The Student Support Directorate is seeking a Leading Teacher - Behaviour Support to work within the Student Engagement service area to work across primary and secondary schools within the Parramatta Diocese. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team, consisting of teachers, psychologists, social workers and mental health occupational therapists, providing your expertise around teaching and learning, within the team and the schools we support. You will hold a caseload of students/ schools and will work closely with your Leading Counsellor colleagues to respond to complex behaviour presentations referred to the Behaviour Support Team.
More Specifically, You Will
- Join a team of leading teachers, Leading Counsellors, mental health Occupational therapists and specialist teachers who support schools within CSPD to support schools in providing ongoing support to students with complex behaviour presentations referred to the Behaviour Support Team.
- Conduct functional behaviour assessments (FBA) of students referred to the Behaviour Support Team. Provide expert knowledge about how to integrate this information to best support vulnerable students within the school context.
- Construct and assist schools in implementing tier 3 behaviour support plans.
- Provide 1:1 in situ support of teaching staff to implement the tier 3 behaviour support plan, with a high degree of fidelity. This is to support the behavioural change of the student.
- Develop and present professional learning to school teams and other professionals across the Diocese.
- Work as part of a Diocesan-level specialist team to support individual students and their school.
- Engage in team-wide clinical/ professional supervision.
- Work systematically to conduct risk assessment and implement risk management plans.
- Collaborate with school teams, parents, external professionals and other CSPD support team members to support the individual students on your caseload.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team of social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists and experienced teachers to support our schools within CSPD.
- Be willing to travel to schools across a large geographical area.
About You
To be successful, you will demonstrate alignment with our purpose and values, together with:
- Tertiary Qualification in Education/Teaching.
- Compliance with NSW Child Protection Legislation - Working with Children Check clearance.
- Eligibility according to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
- Have at least 5 years of experience as a classroom teacher.
- Have been in a leadership role within your school or education system.
- Have an interest and demonstrated skills in working with children and young people who present complex and challenging behaviour.
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring teachers and school teams.
- Have leadership skills that support schools in working with students who present with additional needs.
- Have outstanding communication skills and the ability to engage in difficult conversations.
- Uses emotional intelligence to build trust and influence educators and multidisciplinary teams to embed evidence-based behaviour support practices that lift outcomes across schools
