Senior Grid Modelling Engineer – Large Scale – Remote

SMA Australia has a full-time opportunity for a talented Senior Grid Modelling Engineer in our Large Scale team. The position is remote (anywhere within Australia), with an option to work from the North Sydney Head Office or Brisbane office if convenient or desired.

Today we are leading the charge for grid-forming technology in Australia and other markets globally, with the technology taking a leading role in grid stabilisation as coal-fired power plants are increasingly phased out.

The Grid Modelling Engineering team in Australia stands at the forefront of developing and deploying SMA's cutting-edge technology to the Australian & New Zealand markets. We support customers through the planning, construction & commissioning phases of their projects as they relate to the simulation and modelling of power system performance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Support and mentor power systems professionals both in customer and consultancy organisations in application of SMA technology to utility-scale power stations.
• Support customers through the planning, construction & commissioning phases of their projects.
• Collaborate with global team with ongoing development of technology & models to best support SMA customers in Australia, New Zealand, and globally.
• Continual optimisation of model documentation to align with local regulations & requirements.
• Support the sales & business development activities of the business with a deep understanding of the technology and its application to the Australian & New Zealand markets.

Experience & Skills (Desirable):

• 3+ years' experience in Grid Modelling
• Strong Control System skills
• Strong Computer Science skills
• Strong problem-solving & analytical skills
• Experience with electricity grid planning and operation
• Renewable energy industry experience in utility-scale BESS, PV or Wind
• Experience with AEMO (Australian Energy Market Operator) model assessment and validation
• Experience with Australian NER (National Electricity Rules) and GPS (Generator Performance Standards)
• Working knowledge of the connection process for Generators under the NER
• Working knowledge of dynamic modelling using PSSE & PSCAD
• Working knowledge of PowerFactory
• Working knowledge of MATLAB Simulink

Qualifications (Required):

• Tertiary Degree in Electrical Engineering OR Equivalent Tertiary Degree – specialising in Power Systems or Control Systems.
