We are Quest Coffee Roasters, a long established espresso bar and organic coffee roastery with a loyal community following in Burleigh Heads and the Gold Coast. We sell coffee beans and products in store, online, and wholesale. We are known for our top quality coffee, epic toasties, delicious in house baked cakes and treats, and friendly café service.

We are looking for a Senior Barista / Trainer to join our team

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Day Management – Opening and closing the café, managing inventory, ordering supplies, and efficiently running the day shift on some days.
  • Barista responsibilities, including expertly preparing and serving a variety of beverages, food items, and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Maintaining strict quality control standards for all drinks and coffee bean preparation at Quest venues.
  • Menu development through team collaboration to introduce new and exciting coffee and non-coffee beverage offerings that align with customer preferences and trends.
  • Performing regular maintenance tasks and promptly troubleshooting any issues related to coffee and beverage equipment to ensure uninterrupted service.
  • Providing expert advice and opinions on coffee selection, brewing techniques, and recommending complementary food items to enhance the overall customer experience.
  • Conducting comprehensive training and development sessions for Quest team members at all venues, fostering continuous skill progression and a culture of excellence.
  • Welcoming and engaging customers with friendly conversation, and actively determining their coffee preferences and needs to provide personalised recommendations.
  • Educating both the team and customers about the characteristics of different coffee beans, their origins, and the nuances of various roasts.
  • Actively promoting and selling coffees, as well as coffee brewing equipment, by effectively communicating the unique attributes and benefits of each product.
  • Staying informed and up to date on the latest coffee and café drink trends, attending industry events, and sharing knowledge with the Quest team to continually elevate the café's offerings.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment that adheres to organisation standards and follows sanitation regulations to prioritise the well-being of both staff and customers.

ABOUT YOU

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 3 or more years of recent experience as a Barista.
  • 1 or more years experience as a Head / Lead barista or Barista Trainer.
  • Strong knowledge of coffee beans, origins, and brewing techniques.
  • Strong listening and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong understanding of Food Health & Safety.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Certification II or more in Hospitality.
  • Organic handling experience.
  • Cafe or Restaurant Management experience.
  • Food handling / Cookery experience.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Australian citizen or resident with an appropriate visa to work in Australia. Note: This role is not suitable for Working Holiday VISA holders.
  • Availability to work at least 1 weekend day every 2nd week
  • Availability to work shifts from 5am to 2:45pm weekdays, and between hours 5am to 5pm on weekends.
  • Loves coffee and tea
  • Own transport to and from work
