Karara Mining Limited (KML)
is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Karara mine is located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia and is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We are looking for a
Senior Environment Advisor
to join our site-based team, delivering specialist guidance and support on environmental management and compliance for the Greater Karara project. The role focuses on implementing and enhancing initiatives within the Environmental Management System (EMS).

This position operates on an
8 days on, 6 days off roster
, with
DIDO
from Geraldton or
FIFO
from Perth options available.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or similar.
• 'C' Class WA Drivers Licence.
• Proven experience in a senior position within the environmental industry
• Fauna handling training – snakes, fauna rehabilitation (desirable)
• Working knowledge and application of State and Federal environmental legislation
• Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite and systems
• National Police clearance

To be eligible to apply for this role you must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia.

Key Duties Include (but not limited to):

• Provide support across all aspects of environmental management and compliance for the Greater Karara Iron Ore Project.
• Implement the Karara Environmental Management System (EMS) and assist in improving environmental performance.
• Promote continuous improvement in all facets of environmental performance on site.
• Assist in implementing practical measures to minimise environmental impacts during mining operations and resource development.
• Coordinate and conduct environmental monitoring programs (flora, fauna, dust, air, water, and soil).
• Conduct document control reviews of environmental documentation to ensure functionality, compliance, and effective impact management.
• Monitor data collection, entry, quality assurance, and reporting.
• Maintain environmental licences and permits.
• Conduct environmental incident investigations and implement corrective and preventative actions.
• Support rehabilitation programs including seed collection, direct seeding, nursery management, and tubestock planting.
• Support wildlife care and native fauna handling.
• Provide training and advice on environmental topics.
• Conduct environmental inspections and audits.
• Undertake all required tasks to ensure full environmental compliance.

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
