About the Role

Join our residue team as a Senior Tailings Superintendent for Residue, based at Kwinana.

In this position you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the engineering design and operations of the residue area storage facilities, biox facility, and ponds align with Alcoa standards and statutory requirements.

Your responsibilities will extend to providing technical engineering input, managing safe contractor operations, and contributing to the Global Impoundment Standards for Tailing Management (GISTM) as well as ANCOLD (Australian National Committee on Large Dams).

Core Responsibilities includes:

  • Regular auditing, lead time analysis, and collaboration with the Environmental team are essential for sustainable engineering and contracting services, contributing significantly to the quality of dam design and residue management.

  • Be part of the WA Impoundments team, focusing on dam safety practices and risk mitigation.

  • Apply Alcoa Business System principles for effective resource utilisation and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure critical governance and risk management associated with tailings facilities.

  • Utilise your strong technical and people expertise to align behaviours across contracting groups, engineering functions, and civil construction teams.

  • Ensure short and long-term dam stability through compliance with Alcoa standards.

  • Prepare project scopes, manage embankment raise design, and contribute to long-term residue facilities planning.

  • Assist in civil engineering input for residue storage and water management plans.

  • Facilitate a consultative working environment within the engineering team, ensuring open communication and trust.

  • Manage forecasting, cost control processes, and optimize process operating conditions.

  • Contribute to EH&S objectives through active participation in reviews and dust management.

What you can bring to the role

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Mining Engineering, specialising in geotechnical engineering.

  • Experience of working in operational leadership roles within a tailings/residue environment.

  • Project engineering experience with a focus on EH&S.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-focused mindset and an appreciation for engineering/contractor alliance relationships.

  • Excellent stakeholder management expertise with an ability to build trusted partnerships with third parties and internal SME groups.
