About the role:

Pontings Mitre 10 has been operating in Warrnambool since 1923. We are seeking a motivated and dependable Assistant Hardware Store Manager to support the daily operations of our hardware department with a focus on our Paint and Power Tool departments.

This key team member will assist in overseeing inventory, customer service, staff coordination, and merchandising to keep our store running like a well-oiled machine You'll work closely with the Hardware Manager to ensure smooth store functionality; help solve customer needs and contribute to a positive and productive work environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong leadership potential, a hands-on approach, and a passion for hardware, tools, and home improvement.

Key responsibilities:

As second in charge for the hardware business you will lead by example and are responsible for delivering and maintaining excellent standards in the following areas:

· Customer Service – deliver outstanding customer service and resolve issues promptly

· Merchandising and inventory management – drive store sales through maintaining accurate inventory levels and ensuring shelves are well-stocked with pleasing store presentation

· Team leadership – assist with staff scheduling, coaching and performance guidance to achieve store goals and objectives together.

· Product knowledge – provide expert advice on our extensive range of products

· Problem Solving - handle escalated queries and concerns in a way that leaves our customers grinning

· Safety – ensure the safety, cleanliness and compliance with store policies

About you:

As a key player in our team, you will need to demonstrate initiative, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and deliver great communication and customer service. We are seeking a positive person with high energy who demonstrates a 'hands on' approach to customer service.

Required Skills & Traits:

· Previous retail or hardware store experience as a Supervisor, Assistant Manager or similar second in charge position preferred

· Strong leadership and interpersonal skills

· Organized, reliable, and attentive to detail

· Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

· Basic understanding of tools, building materials, and home improvement products

· Willingness to learn and take initiative

· Strong communication skills and a customer-first mindset
