Clinical Coder

Permanent Part-Time (8 hours per week)

Are you passionate about health data, clinical documentation, and accuracy? Yarrawonga Health is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Clinical Coder to join our Health Information Services team.

This is your opportunity to play a vital role behind the scenes – ensuring patient care is accurately reflected, and helping drive funding, quality improvement, and planning through precise clinical coding.

About the Role

As the Clinical Coder, you'll extract information from patient records to produce coded clinical data that supports everything from Activity-Based Funding to internal audits and reporting. You'll also oversee quality coding practices, manage Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, and support the maintenance of key data and medical record systems.

This role offers a high level of autonomy and the chance to contribute meaningfully to the quality of patient information and health outcomes across the service.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:
  • Coding all inpatient medical records in line with agreed targets and Australian Coding Standards
  • Ensuring timely and accurate medical record coding
  • Following up on queries and liaising with clinical staff for clarity where required
  • Conducting quality coding audits and contributing to continuous improvement
  • Supporting education around accurate documentation for medical staff and VMOs
  • Preparing and submitting statistical and scheduled reports, including to the Victorian Agency for Health Information (VAHI)
  • Managing FOI requests, including escalation as needed
  • Archiving and record destruction in accordance with compliance requirements
About You – Key Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • A recognised qualification in Health Information Management or Clinical Coding (or currently studying toward one)
  • Experience with health/medical record coding and understanding of Australian Coding Standards
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to liaise with staff at all levels across the organisation

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of NSQHS and Aged Care standards
  • Experience with Freedom of Information (FOI) processes or medico-legal document management
