Team Leader – Assembly (Aerospace)

Ferra Engineering is a market-leading aerospace manufacturing organisation delivering precision CNC machining and assembly for the defence, aerospace, and space sectors. We partner with global OEMs like Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Parker Aerospace on programs including the F-35 Lightning II, MQ-28 Ghost Bat, Apache Helicopter, and more.

We are looking for an experienced Assembly Technician who is ready to step off the tools and take the next step into leadership. This role is perfect for someone who has strong technical skills, understands aerospace assembly processes, and is eager to lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team. Ensuring production, quality, safety, and delivery standards are consistently achieved while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.


What You'll Do

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Assembly Technicians and Trades Assistants.
  • Allocate resources and ensure production outputs meet the Master Production Schedule (MPS).
  • Develop and execute recovery plans when production targets are not met.
  • Act as the senior quality system champion on your shift, ensuring compliance with AS9100 and customer standards.
  • Identify defects early, implement containment actions, and support defect reduction initiatives.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance cost, cycle time, and process stability.
  • Coordinate with other departments to resolve production issues efficiently.
  • Promote and enforce a safe, clean, and compliant work environment.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Defence/Aerospace industry experience.
  • Proven experience supervising a team of skilled technicians.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead manufacturing process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong capability to coordinate with managers/supervisors to resolve production issues.
  • Experience diagnosing production issues and implementing recovery actions.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in aerospace assembly techniques.
  • Trade qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Aerospace (Cert III or higher).

Desirable:

  • Formal leadership or management training (e.g., Certificate IV in Frontline Management).
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience working within AS9100/ISO9001 quality systems.
  • Strong understanding of root cause analysis and defect prevention techniques.
