We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Botanist or Ecologist to join our team at one of our offices in Port Melbourne, Ballarat, or Geelong. The successful candidate will lead and deliver ecological assessments, environmental approvals and contribute to conservation planning, and provide expert advice on a range of projects in Victoria.

As part of the APEM Group, Biosis is a team of expert consultants specialising in Aboriginal archaeology, botany, environmental approvals, GIS, historical archaeology, historical heritage, and zoology. We help clients navigate pre-planning, planning, and post-approvals for projects across Australia, primarily in the eastern states. Since 1983, we have been guiding clients in making informed decisions about ecology, heritage, and environmental approvals.

Key Responsibilities:


• Design and lead delivery of ecological survey programs and impact assessment tailored to client needs.


• Preparing high-quality technical reports, including ecological impact assessment, vegetation mapping, and offsets advice and strategy.


• Leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects


• Providing expert advice on Victorian and Commonwealth biodiversity legislation.


• Supporting junior staff in fieldwork, data analysis, and reporting.


• Liaising with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure project delivery aligns with client and regulator needs.


• Preparing project proposals and tender submissions.


• Assisting in the preparation of expert evidence and depending on experience presenting evidence.


• Building and maintaining relationships with clients, regulators, industry bodies and researchers.

To be successful in this role, you will need:


• Tertiary qualifications in botany, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline.


• Minimum 5 years of experience in ecological consulting or a related field.


• Demonstrated expertise in Australian ecosystems.


• Strong understanding of environmental legislation and Victorian policy framework.


• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


• A current and valid driver's licence.


• You must have the right to work in Australia to apply for this job.

Desirable skills


• Knowledge and experience working in NSW and with NSW legislation


• Accreditation or experience undertaking audit programs
