About the Role

The Senior Clinician will work within a multidisciplinary team of private practitioners, allied health, and welfare services to support young people aged 12–25. This includes conducting screening assessments, providing brief interventions and evidence-based treatment, coordinating cases, managing triage, and facilitating referrals for those at risk or experiencing mental health or drug and alcohol problems.

The Senior Clinician will liaise closely with mental health professionals from Children and Young People's Mental Health to determine the appropriate clinical pathway or referral for young people who access headspace and Youth Complex services. Other tasks include acting as a first point of contact for young people and their families, organising appointments, providing a brief intervention to young people, providing evidenced based treatment; engaging and liaising with GPs and Allied Health Professionals, and collection of client minimum data set and data entry. The Senior Clinician will also be required to work in an outreach capacity.

In addition, the Senior Clinician will lead daily clinical review meetings, provide intervention for more complex clients, and provide clinical advice as required to the Youth Access Team and Youth Complex Workers; as well as assisting in the review and recording of clinical processes and procedures.

About You

You hold a minimum tertiary bachelor's degree in one of the following:

  • Community Welfare, Counselling, Social Work (eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Work)
  • Occupational Therapy (with general registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia – Health Professional Level 3)
  • Psychology (4-year degree with full registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA/Psychology Board of Australia – Psychologist Year 5–Year 9)
  • Nursing (Division 1 Registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA – CNS-2)
  • Or other qualifications deemed relevant by the employer.
  • If you are a Welfare Officer, Counsellor, Social Worker, Sexual Assault Worker, or Occupational Therapist, you also bring a minimum of three years' clinical experience in your field to be recognised at Level 2.
  • You bring extensive clinical expertise supporting young people with multiple and complex needs, alongside proven ability to engage meaningfully with young people aged 12–25 experiencing mental health challenges and their families.
  • You hold a current Australian Driver Licence and are willing to travel across locations within the District.
  • Your strengths include exceptional communication skills whether over the phone, face to face, or in writing, paired with active listening and motivational interviewing techniques.
  • You are confident working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team of dedicated health professionals, providing advice, guidance, and compassionate support.
