Job Title: Director of Finance – Financial Services

About the Role

This is a Fixed Term Full Time position to cover Parental Leave end August 2026, at 80 hours per fortnight within the Finance department.

This is a key leadership role in Corporate Services ideal for an experienced senior finance professional who will help progress a performance culture, ensure robust financial stewardship, and engage effectively stakeholders at all levels including Departmental and Audit liaison.

The successful applicant will lead an experienced, capable team with well-established systems and processes already in place. This is a hands-on, continuity-focused role suited to a collaborative leader who values stability, integrity, and clear communication.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role provides leadership and oversight of the hospital's core financial operations, including accounting, treasury, accounts payable and receivable, asset accounting, and financial systems. The focus of this position is to maintain financial governance, compliance, and audit readiness, ensuring the ongoing delivery of accurate, timely, and high-quality financial reporting.

What you'll achieve:

  • Lead the hospital's full suite of financial operations, including general ledger governance, financial accounting, cash management, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), private revenue, treasury, asset accounting, and financial systems.

  • Act as a key advisor to the CFO on financial governance, audit outcomes, and emerging compliance risks, contributing to executive and board-level financial assurance discussions

  • Lead a multidisciplinary finance team across accounting, treasury, systems, AP, AR, and revenue operations, fostering capability, accountability, and high performance.

  • Ensure a "one finance" culture through working collaboratively across the Finance and Business partnering teams

  • Oversee all accounts receivable operations, including private patient billing (e.g. Medicare, compensable, and insurance revenue), ensuring accuracy, audit readiness, and accounting recognition practices.

  • Provide strategic oversight of accounts payable operations, including supplier payments, invoice workflows, payment runs, and vendor data governance, ensuring integrity and compliance in supplier master data and payment processes.

Your skills and experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Full professional membership with CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants ANZ (CA ANZ), or a recognised equivalent.

  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including managing multidisciplinary finance teams, building capability, and leading through periods of change or system reform.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing core accounting functions, compliance, or financial systems.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing end-to-end financial operations within a large, complex organisation.

About the Department

Financial Services team supports the hospital's core financial operations, including general ledger governance, financial accounting, revenue accounting, accounts payable, treasury, financial systems, and fixed asset accounting. The team ensures compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, the Financial Management Act, and Standing Directions, and is responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and audit-ready financial reports.
