Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Core Environmental Projects Full time

About us:

Core Environmental Projects is an employee-owned engineering and design consultancy with a strong focus on landfill and contaminated site rehabilitation. We serve clients across Australia, specializing in landfill assessment and rehabilitation, vapor and gas building protection, construction quality assurance, and more. Our team is looking for an Associate/Principal Environmental Scientist based in Melbourne or Sydney, to lead and deliver complex environmental projects across contaminated land, waste, and construction sectors.

This is a senior leadership position that will see you managing multidisciplinary teams, building long-term client partnerships, and driving business growth through technical excellence and project delivery. You'll work with autonomy and influence, supported by a collaborative team culture that values initiative, accountability, and professional integrity.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of environmental projects, ensuring quality, safety, and commercial success.
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior and senior consultants to support career development and technical capability.
  • Act as a trusted client advisor, maintaining strong professional relationships and contributing to business development initiatives.
  • Oversee project planning, financials, and risk management to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes.
  • Prepare and review scopes, proposals, and technical reports that meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and accountability in every project.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geoscience, or a related discipline.
  • 8 to 10+ years' experience in environmental consulting, ideally from a well-regarded consultancy.
  • Proven ability to independently manage complex projects across contaminated land and/or construction environments.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring experience, with the ability to manage and inspire a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent client engagement and communication skills, with confidence liaising with regulators and contractors.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Australian Standards, legislation, and environmental compliance frameworks.
  • Experience in landfill gas mitigation or remediation projects will be highly regarded.

Why join us:

We believe in more than just a job - we offer a place to grow, connect, and make a real impact.
