Hanwha Defence Australia (HDA) are delivering capability to the Australian Defence Force by uniting the best Australian and South Korean technology and practices.
HDA is now operating from it's $170 million manufacturing facility known as the Hanwha Armoured Vehicle Centre of Excellence (H-ACE), next to Avalon Airport in Geelong, which has brought high technology vehicle manufacturing back to the region.
Under Stage 1, the 32,000 square metre state-of-the-art facility will initially be focused on the production of Hanwha's AS9 Self-Propelled Howitzer (SPH) and AS10 Armoured Ammunition Resupply Vehicle (AARV) under LAND 8116 Phase 1 Protected Mobile Fires program.
Stage 2 design has commenced and will see the facility expanded to fulfill the Australian Army requirement for 129 Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs), under LAND 400 Phase 3.
The plant features a 1,500-metre test track, deep-water test facility, obstacle course and purpose built Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMI / EMC) chamber, one of the most advanced in the region.
Position Overview:
The Controls and Integration Engineer will be responsible for the development and integration of SCADA and MES across the plant to ensure accurate reporting and data capture. In addition, the position will install new equipment within the plant and improve PLC code as required to achieve improved outcomes in production. The successful candidate will establish their own sub-division of key tasks and communicate status throughout the Hanwha Defence Australia (HDA) organisation.
Primary Duties:
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment issues
- Manage and improve site industrial automation systems - PLCs (siemens)
- Develop SCADA within facility and work with production in the development of dashboarding across the plant and implementation
- Improve MES system and manage new installations
- Support the integration of MBOM to SAP
- Installation and commissioning new equipment and systems.
- Develop business cases and capital project proposals.
- Support the development of the overall manufacturing processes
- Develop production procedures, documentation and process mapping as required
- Where applicable implement FMEAs, (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) or equivalent risk-based approach methodologies when implementing new designs and equipment
- Work within the ERP / MRP system to develop manufacturing BOMs that drive downstream activities associated with production orders and routings
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience, with strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong background in PLC and automation programming.
- Automotive industry or experience working in a complex production/manufacturing environment is highly regarded
- Proven experience delivering new equipment to production
- Demonstrated knowledge of production and production systems
- Engineering knowledge of mechanical design and associated Australian design standards, relating to safety of design, design of controls.
- Appreciation of Industry 4.0 and digitisation in modern manufacturing
- Ability to utilise and interrogate 2D and 3D CAD software packages as required
- Working knowledge of MRP and planning requirements in production facilities.
- Knowledge in SAP B1/SAP S/4HANA will be an advantage
- Strong project management and problem solving skills
