About the role

Offered on a permanent, full-time basis, we currently have two (2) exciting opportunities available leading a team to perform operational maintenance of the City's streetscape gardens and green spaces, to present a positive image of the City.

The Leading Hand – Streetscapes will be responsible for the delivery of high-profile public realm and city centre maintenance in conjunction with the Supervisor. With a focus on new and complex assets such as landscaped streetscapes, plazas, and Metronet's Long Park precinct, this role involves leading a specialised team, allocating work across multiple service areas, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring presentation standards that meet community and visitor expectations in high-use spaces.

The Leading Hand – Street Gardener will be responsible for leading a team to maintain and enhance the City's street gardens, and established open spaces. This role is more hands-on in horticultural practices, guiding day-to-day gardening, planting, irrigation, and weed management and traffic management tasks while supporting team members to deliver quality green spaces across suburban streetscaped areas.

A snapshot of your new role:

• Interpret and implement assigned maintenance schedules, landscape designs and service requests
• Assure the quality of work carried out by your team is performed to a high standard
• Undertake streetscape maintenance in a safe and efficient manner compliant with City Policies and directives
• Assuring quality of work is performed to a high standard
• Conduct daily maintenance on vehicle, trailer and plant and equipment
• Carry out various maintenance tasks to ensure the City's street gardens and green spaces are maintained to a high level of amenity including but not limited to, litter/waste removal, pruning, hedging, mulching, weed control and turf upkeep
• Minor use of herbicides to chemically control grasses and weeds in street gardens, and green spaces where appropriate.
• Use the diary provided by the City to report items to and note tasks from Supervisor, record and document daily activities, incidents and upcoming events/items for attention

What you will bring to the role:

• Certificate III in Horticulture, Parks and Gardens, or Conservation/Land Management, or demonstrated experience in a similar role
• Experience in leading a small team
• Competent plant identification skills
• Pest, disease and weed identification and control
• Experience in tree/shrub planting and maintenance
• Experience in hand/precision/motorised pruning and turf mowing tools
• White Card
• Basic Worksite Traffic Management accreditation, or ability to obtain within 6 months
• Traffic Controller accreditation, or ability to obtain within 6 months
• Tickets in forklift, front end loaders, skid steer loader and chainsaw would be desirable
• Qualifications or training in supervision or leadership
• Current Western Australian "C" class driver's licence required, with MR preferred
• Current National Police Clearance
