Second in Charge – The George Tavern, East Maitland

We are seeking an experienced and professional Second in Charge to support the leadership and daily operations of our busy regional pub in East Maitland.

The George Tavern is a high-volume venue with diverse offerings across multiple revenue streams. We pride ourselves on our strong local community connections and our commitment to developing and upskilling talent within our team.

Located next to Stockland Greenhills Shopping Centre, The George features a spacious Sports Bar, excellent Gaming Lounge, drive-thru bottle shop, award winning bistro, and function facilities.

This is a full-time salaried position for an experienced hospitality professional with strong knowledge of venue operations, food, beverage and gaming service.

You'll bring a hands-on approach, a positive attitude, and the ability to motivate and support a large front-of-house team.

The role includes a rotating roster of days, nights, weekends, and public holidays, with a commitment to supporting a healthy work/life balance.

Key Responsibilities

As Second in Charge your key focuses will include:

  • Leading a team and ensuring they are consistently delivering a quality customer experience
  • Setting the example for your team and driving a strong positive culture
  • Maintaining cost controls as well as working with the team on sales-driving initiatives
  • Overseeing all bar, gaming, and food service whilst on shift
  • Supporting the General Manager in creating a clear vision for the venues ongoing growth

Successful candidates will:

  • possess a strong focus on gaming, maintaining and driving service standards
  • show an ability to run a fast-paced venue that has multiple profit centres
  • be customer focused and always aiming to provide exceptional customer service
  • be able to work unsupervised and as part of a team
  • show great attention to detail and venue presentation
  • have excellent personal presentation and communication skills
  • have strong cash handling and back-of-house procedural skills
  • desire to become a valued member of our family business and move forward in your career with future opportunities to advance sought internally first.
