About the Role
Life Without Barriers' Youth and Family Mental Health Services are accredited under the National Mental Health Standards, and we are seeking an enthusiastic, engaging and experienced Mental Health Senior Youth Worker to join our Hobart Mental Health team on a permanent, part time (.8FTE) basis. The purpose of the Senior Youth Worker is to provide direct outreach-based assistance and support to clients of the youth mental health service to enable them to achieve their goals as established by their care plan. The role will work alongside Clinician's to provide shared care support, as well as holding a caseload of their own with support from team Clinicians. The Senior Youth Worker will work therapeutically with the young person and provide case management support. The role is diverse and highly rewarding where you get to work with young people for an extended duration in an outreach capacity, to be able to support meaningful change in their lives. The Senior Youth Worker will also assist the mental health team with the day-to-day client support and case management, stakeholder liaison, administration, quality assurance and growth of the program. The role will suit a youth worker who can confidently work autonomously and can be agile and responsive to fast changing needs and priorities with young people who experience significant mental health challenges. The Senior Youth Worker will be part of the wider youth mental health service and be provided with significant professional development and training opportunities, have regular clinical and peer supervision, be part of multidisciplinary client review meetings and have their safety and wellbeing our top priority within a highly supportive working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high level direct psychosocial support and case management to young people, in collaboration with families, in the Youth Mental Health Service, using evidence-based frameworks of practice.
- Support clients to develop goals and life skills and achieve developmental and personal goals.
- Facilitate opportunities for client growth by creating a safe environment and providing appropriate resources.
- Support and implement care plans as guided by the young person and Clinicians.
- Enhance care plan outcomes through 1-1 psycho-social support using evidence-based frameworks of practice such as DBT and ACT.
- Work collaboratively within the Mental Health Services program with an outcome focus.
- Provide direct psychosocial support, as well as engage in liaison and co-ordination of additional client support outside the service and for on-referral.
- Ensure all client case noting, data and statistics are effectively and efficiently recorded into the client records system.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum Cert IV in Mental Health or Youth Work, Batchelor of Social Work or Psychology.
- Training or experience in using Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) with young people would be preferable but not essential.
- Demonstrated experience providing high level 1-1 support to young people experiencing mental health issues and/or complex psychosocial challenges.
- Sound knowledge of mental health and experience working with young people who have mental health difficulties.
- Excellent ability to demonstrate professional boundaries and values of empathy, dignity, respect, inclusion, non-judgement, empowerment, confidentiality and strengths-based practice.
- Ability to think creatively, be self-reflective and use initiative to work individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to work in an outreach capacity and network across government and community sectors.
- Excellent written and computer skills for accurate documentation of plans, case notes, data, and reports, and sound experience using client record management systems.
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and hold Tasmanian Working With Vulnerable People Registration. A current drivers licence and first aid are also required.
