The Role
The Airfield Operations Manager (AOM) is responsible for managing a broad range of activities and resources at Swartz Barracks, Oakey, as well as the satellite training areas.
The AOM provides stakeholders with timely and accurate aviation operations advice and is responsible for the efficient and effective use of airfield resources, at Oakey, Brymaroo and Wyoming in accordance with Defence and Civillian Aviation Regulations (DASR & CASR).
The AOM will provide specialised safety and general aviation advice to the Commandant Army Aviation Training Centre Oakey as well as the Base Manager Darling Downs. The AOM will also provide emergency management support and advice with regards to the airfield. The AOM will perform rostered shift work as required.
To Summarise: An airport operations manager is in charge of assessing, evaluating, coordinating and overseeing the daily airport operations. Please note Position may require Shift Work and periods of on call duty.
The Workplace Environment Includes:
- Computer Use, Sitting at desk;
- Lifting 15 kg +;
- Bending, Squatting, Reaching, Push/pull;
- Distance walking (i.e. large building or inter-building transit);
- Works outdoors;
- Works in a call centre environment;
- Works in a customer service environment;
- Exposure to chemicals;
- Requirement to wear personal protective equipment (PPE);
- Exposure to Petrol, Oil, Lubricant Products that may cause dermatological conditions;
- Excessive Noise;
- Peaks & Troughs.
About our Team
The Airfield Operations Team is responsible to the Airfield Safety and Operations Manager for the safe, effective and efficient delivery of airfield support services. This includes airfield operations, training area coordination and search and rescue duties. The successful delivery of these services ensures that the agreed level of safety for the specified training area requirements is achieved.

The Airfield Operations Team at AAvnTC are seeking an experienced and high achieving Airfield Operations Manager (AOM). The AOM will have strong problem solving skills, can handle difficult interpersonal situations and addresses conflict that may arise in day-to -day work activities. The AOM is also expected to have knowledge of airport emergency operations and security regulations.
Our Ideal Candidate will demonstrate the following:
- Excellent communication skills;
- Knowledge of essential management skills and principles as applied to airport operations;
- Computer skills;
- Knowledge of weather conditions;
- Knowledge of management principles and practices as applied to airport operations;
- Excellent oral and written skills;
- Good ability to plan and carry out airport operations, maintenance, and development programs;
- Capacity to choose, assess and train operations staff;
- Ability to establish and maintain work relationships with government officials and agencies, employees and the general public.
