Court Reporter/Journalist – Law360 Australia
Location: Sydney or Melbourne| Onsite| Full-time
Join Law360's brand-new Australian bureau and help shape the future of legal and financial journalism.
About the Team
Law360, a LexisNexis company, is a global leader in legal and business journalism — delivering breaking news, in-depth analysis, and insights across 70+ practice areas and jurisdictions. Reaching over 2.7 million readers daily, Law360 keeps legal professionals, regulators, and business leaders ahead of critical developments shaping their industries.
As part of our continued global expansion, Law360 is launching its Australian bureau — a new team dedicated to high-impact coverage of the legal, regulatory, and financial sectors across the country.
We're now looking for a Court Reporter/Journalist to join our inaugural editorial team. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a new, high-profile newsroom from day one, contributing to stories that inform and influence key decision-makers in Australia and beyond.
About the Role
As Senior Reporter, you'll play a lead role in reporting and analysing major developments in financial services, regulation, and litigation. You'll break news, write feature stories, and produce investigative pieces that provide clarity and insight into Australia's evolving legal and business landscape.
You'll work closely with the Law360 Bureau Chief and colleagues around the world, building trusted sources within government, law, and industry while helping shape Law360's editorial presence in Australia.
This role suits an experienced journalist who thrives in fast-paced news environments, has excellent legal or financial literacy, and enjoys crafting sharp, insightful stories for a professional audience.
Reporting to the Bureau Chief, this a permanent full-time role based in either Sydney or Melbourne offices (onsite).
Responsibilities
- Produce accurate, engaging, and timely news and feature stories focused on the financial services and legal sectors.
- Break exclusive stories and contribute investigative pieces on litigation, regulation, and corporate matters.
- Monitor court activity, parliamentary developments, and regulatory trends across Australia.
- Build and maintain a strong network of sources, including lawyers, regulators, policymakers, and financial experts.
- Collaborate with editors, designers, and other reporters to deliver high-quality multimedia journalism.
- Uphold Law360's editorial standards of accuracy, balance, and integrity.
- Represent Law360 at press briefings, conferences, and public forums.
- Contribute to the culture of innovation in a growing newsroom, including exploring new storytelling formats and AI tools.
Requirement
You are a curious and driven journalist with a passion for explaining complex issues clearly and accurately. You thrive on uncovering stories that matter — and you're eager to be part of building something new.
You will bring
- A tertiary qualification in journalism, media, communications, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of full-time reporting experience (financial or legal reporting preferred).
- Proven ability to report, write, and edit under deadline pressure.
- Experience covering financial services, regulation, government, or courts.
- Strong research, analytical, and fact-checking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with an ability to distil complex information.
- Demonstrated integrity, accuracy, and sound news judgment.
- Comfortable collaborating across global teams and managing multiple priorities.
