About the Role
We're looking for a Court Reporter/Journalist who can turn the drama of the courtroom into clear, impactful journalism.
You'll attend and report on hearings, rulings and key business-law cases across Australia's courts. You'll translate complex legal proceedings into accessible stories that engage our professional audience and help them understand what matters — and why.
This is an exciting opportunity to build a new beat, develop a strong network of legal sources, and contribute to the launch of Law360 Australia, backed by one of the world's most respected names in legal information.
Reporting to the Bureau Chief, this is a permanent full-time role based in either Sydney or Melbourne offices (onsite).
Responsibilities
Attend court hearings and trials to report on major legal and business-law developments.
File accurate, timely and engaging stories under daily deadlines.
Monitor court schedules, rulings and filings to identify emerging stories.
Conduct interviews and verify facts using public records, filings and trusted sources.
Provide clear, concise reporting that makes complex legal proceedings accessible.
Collaborate with editors and colleagues across Australia, the U.S., U.K. and Canada.
Uphold the highest standards of accuracy, impartiality and ethical reporting.
Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive legal material.
Requirements
You're a driven journalist who thrives on fast-paced reporting and capturing stories that matter. You have an eye for detail, a love of accuracy, and a keen interest in law and the courts.
You will bring
A tertiary qualification in journalism, media, or communications.
At least 1 year of paid reporting experience, ideally with exposure to court or legal reporting.
Strong writing, analytical, and fact-checking skills.
Excellent communication and deadline-driven work ethic.
Integrity, curiosity and high professional standards.
Willingness to travel between courts and cover hearings outside standard hours when required.
Interest in financial or business law reporting (highly regarded).
