Family Group Conferencing Support Officer
2 weeks ago
Role Status: Full-time term vacancy until 18 August 2026
Remuneration: $82,090 - $87,758
Role Details:
Join us at the Department for Child Protection's Port Augusta office as we grow our team with dedicated professionals supporting families and ensuring children's voices are heard in key decisions.
We're looking for a Family Group Conferencing Support Officer to coordinate and promote Family Group Conferencing (FGC) and family-led decision-making (FLDM) across the Far North Far West region, including support to Port Pirie and Whyalla. This role focuses on building strong relationships with families, staff, and service providers, and ensuring Aboriginal families can meaningfully participate in decisions that affect them.
In this role, you will:
- Promote Family Group Conferencing and family-led decision-making as culturally responsive options to achieve safe outcomes for children, young people, and families.
- Provide best practice guidance and advice on FGC and FLDM processes, documentation, and quality standards.
- Lead culturally appropriate practice, offering high-quality advice to support the needs of Aboriginal children and young people.
- Guide best practice work in the unborn child concern/pre-birth phase through FGC referral or FLDM processes.
To be successful:
You have strong problem-solving skills, can analyse complex information, and develop practical solutions. You understand trauma-informed best practice and can communicate clearly in writing on sensitive issues. You also bring knowledge of the challenges affecting Aboriginal children and families and how these shape effective service delivery.
If you can work collaboratively and lead best practice that empowers families to make important decisions for their children, then we encourage you to apply.
About the Business:
The Department for Child Protection (DCP) plays a key role in the protection of children, young people and their families within South Australia. The department provides support to vulnerable children and young people to be safe, strong and connected.
What We Offer:
- Employee Assistance Program: confidential and independent counselling for you and your family.
- Strong commitment to learning and development.
- Paid Parental and Partner Leave.
- Free annual flu vaccination for staff.
- Leave loading and salary packaging opportunities.
