Lead Graphic Designer — Sydney

We're looking for a Lead Graphic Designer to take ownership of Factor's visual and editorial output across whitepapers, research reports, and branded publications. You'll blend design precision with content clarity — ensuring every publication reads well, looks sharp, and stands up to scrutiny.

This role suits someone who can move confidently between layout, copy refinement, and direction of an offshore team — setting the visual and editorial standard for Factor's research portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the creative direction and visual identity across all whitepapers, reports, and marketing publications.
  • Translate complex insight or data into clear, structured, and visually compelling layouts.
  • Review and refine written content — checking tone, structure, grammar, and factual accuracy before publication.
  • Determine the most effective way to visualise data, choosing or designing charts, infographics, and supporting visuals that best communicate each point.
  • Collaborate with researchers and writers to align copy, visuals, and structure for clarity and flow.
  • Manage an offshore design team, providing detailed briefs, feedback, and ongoing quality control.
  • Maintain and evolve Factor's visual system and typographic standards.
  • Oversee final checks — layout consistency, data accuracy, copy errors, and print or digital readiness.
  • Mentor junior designers and writers to uphold high editorial and visual standards.

Skills & Experience

  • 6+ years' experience in publication, editorial, or corporate brand design — ideally within research, professional services, or B2B environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading offshore or distributed design teams.
  • Strong editorial eye — able to proof, tighten, and bulletproof text for tone, grammar, and accuracy.
  • Excellent data visualisation judgement — selecting the right chart, visual, or layout to clarify complex ideas.
  • Advanced Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop); Figma or XD proficiency preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Confident communicator who can brief clearly, edit constructively, and deliver under pressure.

  • Experience with research communication or long-form marketing content.
  • Knowledge of interactive reports, digital publishing, or motion design.
  • Understanding of accessibility, responsive layout, and data storytelling principles.
