Senior Associate Project Finance

Salary:
Competitive and based on experience

Location:

You will be at the forefront of supporting major deals within the Australian and New Zealand energy and infrastructure markets, contributing your expertise in credit analysis, financial modelling, and stakeholder engagement. The organisation offers a supportive and inclusive culture that values collaboration, professional growth, and knowledge sharing. With flexible working opportunities and exposure to high-profile projects, this position provides an outstanding platform for you to further develop your career in a dynamic sector.

  • Work on high-impact project and infrastructure finance transactions across Australia and New Zealand, gaining exposure to diverse sectors including energy and transport.
  • Join a collaborative team environment where your analytical skills, attention to detail, and relationship-building abilities are valued and nurtured through ongoing training opportunities.
  • Benefit from flexible working arrangements, generous support for professional development, and the chance to contribute to global initiatives within a respected financial institution.

What You'll Do
As a Senior Associate Project and Infrastructure Finance based in Sydney, you will immerse yourself in all aspects of deal origination and execution within one of the most active sectors in banking today. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you collaborating closely with senior team members on live transactions—preparing detailed credit submissions that require advanced financial modelling skills alongside rigorous due diligence reviews. You will engage directly with clients during meetings or pitches while also maintaining strong communication lines with internal stakeholders such as risk management or legal teams. Your ability to monitor business development progress against set targets will be crucial in driving success for both individual deals and broader team objectives. In addition to supporting local initiatives within Australia and New Zealand's vibrant energy/infrastructure landscape, you'll have opportunities to contribute insights toward global projects—broadening your professional network while deepening your technical expertise. Success in this role hinges on your capacity for analytical thinking combined with excellent interpersonal skills; you'll need to interpret complex models confidently yet communicate findings clearly so that key decision-makers can act swiftly on your recommendations.

  • Provide comprehensive support for the origination of project and infrastructure lending transactions by assisting with deal structuring, market research, and client engagement.
  • Prepare detailed credit proposals that include thorough project risk analysis, due diligence reviews, and robust financial modelling for submission to internal credit committees.
  • Attend meetings with clients, advisors, and external stakeholders to assist in developing new business opportunities as well as managing ongoing client relationships through high-quality pitch preparation.
  • Support periodic reviews and re-assessments of project risks and credit quality by gathering relevant data, analysing trends, and preparing insightful reports for management.
  • Maintain close contact with clients throughout the transaction lifecycle, escalating any compliance or performance issues to management promptly to ensure adherence to agreed terms.
  • Conduct in-depth research into the Australian and New Zealand energy and infrastructure markets to identify emerging trends, regulatory changes, and potential business opportunities valuable to both the bank and its clients.
  • Manage relationships with a wide range of internal teams—including industry bankers, relationship managers, product partners—as well as external parties such as legal counsel, tax advisors, compliance officers, and operations staff.
  • Monitor business development activities regularly against budgeted targets; initiate corrective actions when necessary to ensure objectives are met or exceeded.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership by providing timely information regarding economic conditions, political developments, or legislative changes that may impact current or future transactions.
  • Support global origination efforts by coordinating with colleagues across international offices while ensuring accurate internal reporting for branch management, head office functions, loan operations teams, and compliance departments.

What You Bring
The ideal candidate for the Senior Associate Project and Infrastructure Finance position brings a wealth of practical experience gained from either banking environments or directly from the infrastructure/energy sectors. Your background demonstrates not only technical proficiency but also a genuine passion for supporting large-scale projects that shape communities. You possess an analytical mindset capable of dissecting complex financial structures while remaining sensitive to commercial realities faced by clients. Your interpersonal strengths shine through when collaborating with colleagues from varied backgrounds—whether it's drafting compelling presentations for new business pitches or liaising with legal experts during contract negotiations. Adaptability is key: you're equally comfortable diving deep into spreadsheets as you are presenting findings at boardroom tables. Above all else, your commitment to delivering high-quality work underpins everything you do—from initial research phases right through post-transaction monitoring—ensuring every stakeholder feels supported throughout their journey.

  • Demonstrated experience (ideally 4–6 years) within banking or related fields such as infrastructure or energy sectors; candidates should have at least 2–3 years' direct involvement in project finance or equivalent roles.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial modelling using Microsoft Excel; you must be comfortable interpreting complex models as well as challenging underlying assumptions where appropriate.
  • Proven track record conducting due diligence processes with meticulous attention to detail coupled with an inquisitive mindset that seeks out potential risks or inconsistencies early on.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills enabling you to convey intricate information concisely across various audiences including senior management or external stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify transaction risks proactively while recommending effective mitigation strategies tailored specifically for each deal context.
  • Collaborative approach towards teamwork; you should thrive when building positive relationships across different departments or partner organisations both locally and internationally.
  • Excellent time management capabilities allowing you to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously without compromising quality standards or deadlines.
  • Strong organisational skills evidenced by your ability to coordinate workflow among diverse groups ranging from relationship managers through compliance officers.
