VCET – Two Venues, Endless Possibilities
With over 30 years of event management expertise the Victorian Convention and Event Trust (VCET) is the powerhouse behind two of Victoria's most iconic venues—Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) and the soon-to-open Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre (July 2026).
Together they create experiences where forward-thinkers connect, collaboration thrives, and world-class events come to life.
About the role
We're currently seeking a Governance Specialist to join our Strategy & Governance Division. This pivotal role supports the development and delivery of best-practice governance across the business, ensuring we remain transparent, accountable and aligned with the requirements of the Victorian Public Sector.
Reporting to the General Counsel, you'll work across a broad remit of governance responsibilities; from maintaining compliance registers and leading attestation processes, to supporting the implementation of enterprise-wide governance frameworks and policy oversight and providing guidance and support to policy owners and internal stakeholders.
Experience in a statutory body, as well as paralegal experience or comfort with legal documentation, is desirable.
About You
You will likely hold a tertiary qualification in governance, law, business, public administration or a related discipline with demonstrated experience managing governance or compliance frameworks, ideally in the Victorian Government or public sector.
You will be known for your strong understanding of legislation, public sector policies and statutory reporting obligations; have excellent interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and governance-related systems.
You will bring critical thinking and an adaptive mindset, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities, a proven track record in understanding, collaborating, and meeting customer expectations and strong organisational and time management skills with a demonstrative ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
What you're here to do
Collaborate and influence across teams to foster a strong culture of ethics, transparency and integrity and lead the implementation and ongoing maintenance of VCET's governance, policy and integrity frameworks including administer core compliance registers for Conflicts of Interest and Gifts, Benefits & Hospitality.
Manage the Controlled Document Hub and ensure organisational policies are current, compliant and accessible, partnering with ICT to oversee information governance and recordkeeping standards in line with OVIC requirements.
Support annual attestations and mandatory disclosures whilst monitoring and interpreting changes in legislation and support VCET's response to regulatory obligations, providing ad hoc support to the General Counsel, in the review of contracts and legal documentation.
