The Role

As a Senior Project Adviser, you will take a lead role in supporting the delivery of major tourism infrastructure projects in regional Victoria in partnership with key stakeholders. The role will provide influential advice to Ministers, departmental senior management, government stakeholders and other key community and industry stakeholders on a range of infrastructure policy and development issues.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Lead and effectively manage tourism infrastructure and planning projects through funding agreements by ensuring delivery of key milestones and reporting, monitoring and resolution of issues. Proactively provide solutions for emerging issues and risks.
  • Initiate and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at peer or senior levels to ensure the effective delivery of tourism infrastructure projects, while also overseeing and guiding staff members to foster a collaborative and high-performing team.
  • Provide support to maintain project documentation through GEMS platform including project updates, variations and program management.
  • Lead activities to amplify project outcomes through stakeholder meetings, events, and strategic communications products for Executives, the Secretary, and the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events.

The Team

The position of Senior Project Adviser will work across Tourism and Events branch, which sits within the Sport and Experience Economy (SEE) group.

Sport and Experience Economy (SEE) group is comprised of Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV), Tourism and Events (T&E) and Outdoor Recreation (OR).

Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV), within the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions (DJSIR), manages several investment programs that seek to increase participation in community sport and recreation by maximising the delivery of outcomes most aligned to Victorian Government objectives and those within Active Victoria.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Specialist/Technical Experience: Experience in the delivery of tourism infrastructure and/or planning projects varying in scale and complexity in collaboration with multiple stakeholders across government and the private sector. A proven track record of delivering projects on time and within scope, with a focus on identifying risks and establishing risk mitigation processes. A demonstrated understanding of the role the Department of Skills, Industry and Regions play in the tourism sector.
  • Project Management: Exhibit advanced expertise in managing grants for tourism infrastructure projects throughout the project lifecycle. Utilise Project Management tools within GEMS for project milestone tracking with a high level of proficiency, ensuring efficient project delivery and stakeholder satisfaction and accountability for all projects.
  • Planning and Organizing: Demonstrate strategic thinking in identifying processes, tasks, and resource requirements to achieve project goals. Prioritise critical activities effectively, continually reviewing and adjusting plans as needed. Develop and implement robust systems and procedures to guide work and track progress, adeptly overcoming barriers to ensure project success.
  • Influence, Negotiation, and Written Communication: Illustrate adeptness in tailoring communication to diverse audiences, aligning messages with stakeholders' values and goals. Skillfully negotiate and execute strategic plans for impactful project outcomes. Exhibit exceptional proficiency in drafting precise and aligned Minister and Executive briefs, as well as grant agreement variations, ensuring clarity and adherence to project requirements.
