About the role

An opportunity exists for a self-motivated and experienced Principal Radiation Specialist to join Iluka's Technical Services team. Reporting directly to the Group Technical Services Manager based in the Perth office, the position will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to contribute to value optimisation throughout the project lifecycle, from inception, through mining, to closure.

The Principal Radiation Specialist will provide support by:

  • Actively advancing "as low as reasonably acceptable" (ALARA) principles, wherever possible

  • Providing consistent radiation and occupational hygiene management advice group-wide

  • Providing direct support, training and mentoring to Iluka's radiation management personnel

  • Developing robust and defensible ERICA and RESRAD models, or similar, and using estimates from these to inform risk

  • Preparing comprehensive reports of a high standard that clearly communicate radiation risks and their mitigation

  • Contributing to the preparation of approval applications

  • Performing the role and duties of Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) or equivalent for Australian Operations

On a regular basis, this position will need to travel to Iluka's exploration tenement, project, operational, rehabilitation, closure, or similar sites, to liaise with Iluka personnel, consultants, and contractors.

About you

To be successful for this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in metallurgy, process engineering, geochemistry, chemistry, nuclear physics, or similar

  • Demonstrated experience working as an RSO and radiation management specialist at mine sites

  • Significant experience developing radioactivity, radiation dose, mass and water balance models (RESRAD, etc.) to identify potential environmental or beneficial use (current and future) impacts and inform radiation management decisions
