About the OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Manager - Platform Engineering to join our Hunter Class Delivery team based in either Osborne, South Australia or Bourke Street, Melbourne.

Reporting to the Head of Platform Engineering, and in conjunction with their whole-ship counterpart, this role will manage project scope, schedule, budget, risk, and opportunities to enable successful delivery of program outcomes. Additionally, this role will be responsible for managing multiple control accounts that deliver the Platform Stage 1 design for the Hunter Class Frigate program, with a focus on ship systems.

The successful incumbent will make informed decisions, trade-offs and prioritisation between projects to optimise program outcomes, through planning and managing program performance, inter-project dependencies, portfolio resources, and program risks and opportunity. The Senior Project Manager will collaborate with internal and external senior stakeholders, building relationships and engaging to provide program support, growth opportunities, and achievement of common goals. The role will ensure appropriate governance is applied to the project, which is commensurate with the risk and complexity profiles, in order to provide confidence in performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop strategic relationships with industry partners and BAE Systems international entities
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the project team, which is aligned to strategic business objectives
  • Foster a positive and collaborative culture between the key project stakeholders and the project team, including the customer, industry partners, sub-contractors and suppliers
  • Build and maintain a trusted relationship with the customer by being a focal point for customer contact
  • Lead the project team to ensure timely activity, integration and efficient use of time and resources to meet requirements
  • Ensure all project requirements and/ or objectives are properly documented in a business case and/ or project brief, as appropriate and vigorously pursued
  • Establish appropriate key success indicators (KSI's) and recommend trade-offs between scope, quality, time and cost. Monitor relevance of KSI's and influence enhancements where valuable
  • Maintain all aspects of the Project Management Baseline within the scope of the Platform Engineering control accounts, including planning, reporting and change management.
  • Ensure that products and services delivered as part of a project are in accordance with the Product Safety Policy and provide customer satisfaction
  • Develop an appropriate risk management culture, which continuously mitigates known risk areas. Ensure risk position, and business impacts, are communicated outside of the project team
  • Provide direction to, and motivate, the broader (matrix) project team
  • Identify and address training and development needs for the project team
  • Complete all closure and wrap-up activities upon project completion including lessons learnt
  • Provide mentoring to developing Project Managers

About YOU

  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management or Engineering (advantageous)
  • Previous experience in a Senior level role of similar responsibility
  • Experience in managing the quality of program outputs to ensure strategic objectives are met
  • Experience in conducting program level meetings and reviews
  • Proven influencer and communicator with stakeholders at all levels, with experience in influencing senior leadership and senior customer representatives
  • Current NV1 Defence security clearance
