Artisans of Barossa, an award-winning collective oeno-tourism business, seeks a Head Chef to develop and operate all aspects of our cuisine program. About Us
Located in the heart of the Barossa Valley, our venue features stunning views across the valley to the Barossa Ranges. Our operation includes the ~100 seat restaurant Essen, which presents a contemporary interpretation of seasonal Barossa food and a Wine Room offering an unparalleled breadth of Barossa wine, and beautiful terrace and lawn spaces. We are proud to have been awarded 'Star Cellar Door' in the Barossa by Gourmet Traveller WINE
The Role
This is a hands-on role for an experienced and confident Head Chef with a positive work attitude and exceptional attention to detail. As a key part of the senior management team, you will help set the goals and strategy for the venue.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Leading and managing the kitchen team, promoting a positive and respectful workplace culture.
- Designing and planning menus that complement our offering of over 100 wines from our producer partners.
- Utilising local seasonal produce, ordering from Barossa suppliers, and growing a kitchen garden culture.
- Consistently producing and delivering high-quality a la carte dining in a modern, relaxed atmosphere.
- Overseeing our events program, which includes corporate functions, private dining, and weddings.
- Achieving key objectives through menu costings, ordering, inventory management, and monthly stocktakes.
- Ensuring strict adherence to food hygiene regulations, stock rotation, and maintaining a clean and well-stocked kitchen.
The role is primarily daytime service from Wednesday to Sunday, with flexibility required for evening work for our events program across a seven-day roster.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a candidate with previous experience in a Head Chef role or a very experienced Sous Chef who is confident and ready for career progression.
Essential Qualifications:
- Food Safety Supervisor Certification.
- Demonstrated competency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Working knowledge and understanding of WHS within the workplace.
- Unrestricted rights to work in Australia.
Skills, Experience & Competencies:
- Demonstrated experience in a la carte dining environments.
- A high level of energy and passion for Barossa wine and food.
- Excellent leadership, organisational skills, and the ability to motivate the team.
- Proven ability to show initiative, solve problems, and provide solutions.
- Strong financial acumen with demonstrated experience in menu costing and inventory control.
- High-level interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Must be punctual, organised, trustworthy, and have a professional appearance.
