Hancock Energy has a full-time opportunity for an experienced Land Access Specialist to join a team supporting onshore oil and gas projects throughout Western Australia.

In this role, you will principally work with members of the Environment, Subsurface, Drilling and HSE Groups, within the Perth Office of Hancock Energy and will report to the General Manager HSE and Corporate Services.

You will be responsible for providing guidance to staff and management on matters relating to Native Title, heritage sites and land access to facilitate progression of exploration projects, seismic survey, drilling and land remediation projects. The role will require development of honest and enduring relationships with aboriginal communities, land councils, land owners, local government other land users and stakeholders, to ensure effective communication between all parties. The role will involve travel and may include camping in remote areas across the State to meet stakeholders.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual with proven experience with major land access projects (Mid West - Perth Basin experience preferred) and the ability to develop and implement effective communication strategies, policies and protocols. You will have excellent organisational and communication skills and be able to negotiate effectively with a variety of stakeholders to reach mutual and productive objectives.

Demonstrated knowledge of the Native Title Act 1993, Indigenous Land Use Agreements, and emerging government policies or Acts pertaining to Aboriginal heritage or land access, is required to succeed in this role.

This position is located in West Perth (however, you may be required to work at other sites as required). Conveniently close distance from public transport and nearby City of Perth parking.

Who are we looking for? Someone with:

  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective partnerships and relationships with respect to land access and heritage.
  • Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, policies and protocols and in providing advice in relation to land access and heritage.
  • Understanding of agricultural practices in Western Australia, particularly broadacre farming
  • The willingness to be a team player in a diverse and complex team environment that provides an exciting learning environment within the Energy Industry.

The ability to:

  • Engage with LGA's, Landholders, Traditional Owners, Community groups providing information to stakeholders regarding exploration activities
  • Negotiate land access agreements with landholders for various exploration related activities
  • Provide support and information to internal stakeholders (i.e. drilling and subsurface teams) regarding land access constraints and opportunities
  • Stakeholder communications database support using X-INFO and associated applications
  • Provide input to the team writing Environmental Plans and Risk Assessments
  • Provide local knowledge and agricultural practice input to the team and others
  • Facilitate and support environment and heritage surveys in the field and planning aspects
  • Ability to be flexible in the work timelines and assist in the conduct of surveys, such as Flora and Fauna and Heritage when Traditional Owner Monitors are required to be on site. This includes extended 7-21 day swings.
  • Knowledge of a variety of agricultural practices within the broadacre would be an advantage.
