About the Role

As an R&D Scientist, you will lead efforts in microbial characterisation and fermentation process development. Your work will be central to our product pipeline, involving day-to-day microbial culture maintenance, strain typing, fermentation optimisation, and in vitro testing. You'll be part of a collaborative, curious team where your problem-solving and lab expertise help shape innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities

·       Develop and maintain microbial cultures and cell banks to support research and production goals

·       Perform detailed phenotypic and genotypic characterisation of microbial strains

·       Design, execute, and optimise fermentation processes to improve product performance and scalability

·       Conduct in vitro assays to evaluate raw materials and microbial functions

·       Analyse data carefully, prepare clear reports, and keep meticulous documentation

·       Collaborate with cross-functional teams to continually improve research and product development

What We're Looking For

·       Degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or related discipline (postgraduate qualifications a bonus)

·       Solid hands-on experience with microbial cultivation, strain characterisation, and fermentation techniques

·       Familiarity with in vitro testing methods and laboratory-scale fermentation

·       Strong attention to detail and a pragmatic, problem-solving mindset

·       Adaptability and enthusiasm for working in a fast-moving startup environment

Desirable Skills

·       Experience or knowledge in microbial genomics or related molecular biology techniques

·       Experience managing or mentoring a small team, with ability to support and develop colleagues
