We're looking for someone to join our team as a Water and Environment Systems Officer.

The key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Provide oversight and maintenance of the Environment and Drinking Water Quality Systems within Cairns Regional Council.
  • Drive system improvements and innovation while ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory reporting and incident response.
  • Develop and implement procedures and continuous improvement strategies that enhance service delivery.
  • Provide expert environmental and drinking water technical guidance to teams across the Council.
  • Lead training initiatives that build technical expertise across the organization.
  • Foster a strong culture of quality, safety, and environmental stewardship throughout Council operations.

What we are looking for:

  • Current 'C' class Drivers Licence
  • Tertiary qualification in Science, Environmental Science, or Engineering relevant to the role.
  • Previous experience relevant to key duties of the role.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the principles of quality management systems applicable to water, wastewater and resource recovery practices and processes.
  • Highly developed written communication skills to review technical data to write and prepare associated technical reports and correspondence.
  • Analytical, problem solving and investigative skills to solve complex issues.
  • High level computer and data recording skills
  • Time management skills to plan and manage multiple projects with tight timeframes.
