About the team:
The City Inspectorate Branch is responsible for enforcement of the City's standards and local laws, across building, community, public safety and environmental health compliance to protect safety and amenity for the City's residents and visitors. You will be working within a supportive and driven team whilst having the support of great line leaders. Within this Branch you will be working in the Development Compliance unit of which is responsible for ensuring that any building works across the City are compliant with relevant legislation and approvals.
About your new role:
This role will further develop and employ your comprehensive knowledge of the Plumbing and Drainage Act, Regulations, Codes and Standards to deliver high quality plumbing and drainage assessment and inspection services. You will utilise your industry leading skills, knowledge and abilities to deliver quality assessment services through the consistent application of legislation within the required time frames.
You will be excited about the hands-on aspect of the role as you conduct Plumbing and Drainage Plan Assessment, on-site inspections of plumbing and drainage installations and engage in Plumbing Compliance within the city.
This position operates a variety of computing platforms, software and web-based applications and your ability to rapidly acquire the skills knowledge and ability to employ new technologies is vital to the successful delivery of our services. You will be passionate about continuous improvement and constantly interrogate processes to improve efficiencies and service delivery standards.
Finally, the position requires a high level of written and verbal communication skills to accurately articulate technical information to a complex variety of stakeholders.
What you will be doing:
- Support the Leadership team in the leadership and management of the Plumbing and Drainage Team.
- Oversee the effective and efficient delivery of all plumbing and drainage legislative requirements within the City of Gold Coast.
- Contribute to establishing priorities, monitoring workflows and supervising/managing various plumbing and drainage projects, operations and processes.
- Monitor and provide advice on technical changes and advancements to the processing of legislative requirements in line with the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018, subordinate legislation and codes (e.g. AS/NZS 3500, QPWC, NCC), ensuring relevant staff and stakeholders are well-informed and kept up to date as required.
- Assist in the development, implementation and review of related policies (new and existing).
- Ensure compliance with Council's Code of Conduct, management directives, policies, procedures and standards by providing advice to team members.
- Provide assistance to the supervisor in relation to the position requirements of the areas plumbing and drainage requirements.
- Provide a specialist input and leadership role to support other initiatives being undertaken by the Council that affect the unit directly/indirectly.
- Produce reports, submissions and correspondence as required
We're looking for people who:
- Hold a current Occupational Plumbing and Drainage licence or other related qualification/licence.
- Hold a current "C" class unrestricted driver's licence.
- Possess a construction industry white card.
- Are willing to ensure your obligation to workplace health and safety and all relevant policies, procedures and legislative requirements are followed.
- Have the ability to apply analytical and critical thinking.
- Have high level communication and negotiation skills and be proficient across a variety of computing platforms and software.
- Offering outstanding customer service comes naturally to you and you consider the entire customer experience.
- Commit to working safely, can work autonomously while being a productive member of a large team.
