About Us
Burdekin is an independent not-for-profit organisation working with young people and their families to prevent homelessness, provide safe housing, and support wellbeing.
We believe every young person deserves to feel safe and have a home, so they can be empowered to fulfil their potential. Our vision is clear: young lives, lived to their full potential.
The Role
We are currently seeking Youth Workers with a therapeutic, person-centred approach who are:
- Available to work weekday shifts, sleepover shifts during the week and weekends, and
- Able to work across multiple locations in Greater Sydney, including the Inner West, Southern Sydney, North West, South West, and Northern Sydney.
As a Youth Worker in our Out of Home Care (OOHC) team, you will support young people living in our residential homes. You'll engage in daily living activities, build trusting relationships, and help young people develop essential life skills — all while working as part of a supportive, values-driven team.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with young people to build life and independent living skills
- Support young people with daily routines such as cooking and cleaning.
- Organise and participate in activities that promote growth and wellbeing
- Provide consistent, trauma-informed, person-centred care
- Collaborate with case managers and other professionals to support the young person's care plan
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
Essential Requirements
- Must be available to work primarily weekend sleepover shifts
- Flexibility to work across various locations in Greater Sydney (including Inner West, Southern Sydney, North West, South West, and Northern Sydney)
- Certificate III or higher in Youth Work, Community Services or related field
- At least 1 year of experience in Out of Home Care or Foster Care settings
- Experience working with young people impacted by trauma
- Strong de-escalation skills and understanding of therapeutic care approaches – TCI training would be an advantage
- Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Current Driver's Licence

- Generous salary packaging benefits – up to $15,900 tax free
- Staff discounts on a wide range of products and services
- A collaborative, passionate, and supportive team
- A role where you truly make a difference in the lives of young people
